When I found this site back in the dark ages (I think it was late 2002) I didn’t know how to even register, so one son helped me. They both know my name but have never been interested in reading or posting here. Like others, they have benefited from things I’ve learned here. We just call it the “college board.”

Yes.

He was here before I was, but hasn’t posted at all regularly since 2007/08, when he was applying to college.

I usually refer to this place as “you know that parents’ forum where I post sometimes?”

Yes, because I stay logged in all the time on a shared computer. Ds1 created an account when people were posting about a friend, but I’m not sure he ever posted.

I’ve never posted scores or GPAs but have posted things that, if someone didn’t have a life and wanted to go through all my posts, could be pieced together and figure out who he is. I do have friends on here who have no doubt figured out who I am (and I know who a couple of them are) but we don’t talk about cc except in very general terms.

I’ve tried to interest my kids and friends in CC, but I don’t think any of them have checked it out! Probably a good thing, since I blab a lot. My son in college does appreciate all the tips I’ve given him, and he knows I got them on CC.

My sons knew my username, don’t know if they still remember it. The older one as far as I know never read CC unless I sent him a link to a thread. The younger one sometimes read the college specific posts and once chided me for getting his GPA wrong. (It was close!) I don’t think he had a user name though.

My sons know my username but would never in a million years read CC.

I admit I was a little more paranoid about posting things like GPA and scores when son was going through the application process but I’ve come to the conclusion that, at this point, it really doesn’t matter unless you are one of those posters from a school where a lot of parents hang out on CC (I’m not). It’s not like I’m telling you guys any deep dark secrets and things I wouldn’t share with people IRL. If someone figures out who I am, then so be it because, let’s face it, they’re on CC doing the same thing. It’s like running into an acquaintance at your therapist’s office. At first you feel embarrassed but then you realize, hey, they’re here for the same reason you are. My only concern is I wouldn’t want son to feel I’m invading his privacy by posting things that could be traced back to him and as YDS stated above, it would take some work on someone’s part to piece together all the facts and figure who he is.

My S knows I visit this site, but not my username. He visited a couple of times during the college application process at the college specific forums (with a very obvious username  )

I will solicit advice on his behalf here, but I pass it on with “I asked someone with a degree in this or has experience in this industry, and this is what they said”
