Our lab/German shorthair mix always greeted us at the door with a present of some type. She would sometimes bring us one of her toys, but usually something bizarre, which made coming home fun. She’d grab something out of the laundry basket, or a can off of the counter, or almost anything else within her reach. We knew her health was failing when that stopped. She died in November, and I’m not home enough these days to be a good dog owner. My cat greets me at the door, but no presents.

My daughter’s cat brings me his laser toy whenever I visit and howls until I turn it on. If you are familiar with the yellow round cat toy that used to be advertised on tv a lot, he has learned how to turn that on. Since he is not in the habit of turning it off, my daughter has to hide the toy when she’s not at home to save the batteries.
