Does your husband yell at the TV during sporting events?

Such a good thread with football almost upon us. My husband yells as did his father before him. His mother used to say to his father, “Why don’t you go behind the TV and yell, they can hear you better there”

Yay, fishymom! DD DVRed it for us, and the next morning we all watched and screamed, too!

When D#2 was 6-8yo, she was best friends with our neighbor’s D. The friend would call D to play, but would sometimes add, “We have to play at YOUR house because my dad is watching football.” I always assumed that the dad (former Razorback) didn’t want to be disturbed during the game. Then one day I heard the little girl tell my D that her mom wanted her out of the house since her dad (devout Baptist) “always says a lot of really bad words when he’s watching football. . .”

My H is the legally blind uncoordinated nerd who always got beat up/glasses broken by the jocks. He hates anything to do with sports and never watches them.
I have fond memories of my dad, uncles, cousins, brothers, etc. drinking beer and yelling at the TV.

This is what fishymom and I were talking about:

[men’s 4x100 freestyle relay 2008 olympics (Full Race) - YouTube](<a href=“men's 4x100 freestyle relay 2008 olympics (Full Race) - YouTube”>men's 4x100 freestyle relay 2008 olympics (Full Race) - YouTube)

It took superhuman strength and speed to win that relay!!!

I had a great aunt who would actually throw things at the screen when her favorite professional wrestler was getting beat up.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using CC App

A resounding “Yes”, and so do I!

There’s a big change in sports which I haven’t seen the media pick up on. And that is the fact that more and more women are watching football.

My SIL and I get together almost every weekend, Saturday for college, and Sunday for pro, and yell, scream and even leap off the couch for our teams. Fortunately, we root for the same pro team, or there would be blood. My H isn’t into it anywhere as much as we are. The way we watch football, it is most definitely NOT a passive, couch potato approach. We get lots of exercise.

Bunsen, thanks for posting the link to the relay, I needed a little lift this morning! It still gives me goosebumps to watch Lezak’s swim. A proud moment for the USA swimming community!

We regularly watch the Eagles and some Phillies games with friends. We ALL yell at the TV when there is a desperate situation! It seems like it should help!

No, but my mom does. Of course she lives in the Detroit suburbs and so is yelling for vastly different reasons, depending on whether it’s football or hockey season.

I tell Bullet when he does this, that he needs to scream louder at the tv because they can’t here you at the stadium!

Not only does he scream at the tv, he is known to walk out of the room and into another room to watch the game, hoping that will change their luck. If that fails he will go on the computer!

If all of that fails he will either call his father or son to vent his frustrations, as if they have a straight line to the coach!

Yelling at the TV definitely works. So does crossing all your fingers and toes and making hex signs. It’s a known fact!

Sometimes and I find it amusing. I guess it is equalivalent to us women crying during chick flicks.

Oh yes! I am fortunate that he limits his comments to cheers (when he’s not channeling Howard Cosell). He has also been known to jump up out of his chair. There are still hand prints on in-laws’ ceiling from one of his displays many years ago. Good thing we have vaulted ceiling at our house!

He used to watch tv in his man cave/garage, now he listens on the radio- & yes he yells at it during sporting events/radio talk shows.
He yells at other cars when he is driving & the windows are rolled up too.

I don’t really watch sports on tv so I don’t get it.

Our whole family yells at the TV, and not just for sports.

My wife yells especially loudly during presidential campaign debates.

I love college football, but my loudest screams and most offensive cussing are reserved for MSNBC.

This. Political debates, Olympic events, hockey games, football, soccer, Law & Order episodes, talking heads on Sunday mornings…

DH does not yell at the TV about sports.

We yell at the radio, too.

S2 and I in particular are the shouters when it comes to sports events. Last night I was shouting about the Nats beating the cr*p out of the Braves, and a contractor was in the house. I think he thought I was nuts.

Who doesn’t yell at their TV if they’re a passionate sports fan?

How else are they going to convince pro athletes who have spent years learning to tune out the uninformed criticism of anonymous masses to suddenly decide to give a damn about playing the sport they love and have dedicated their lives to?

I yell at the judges during “So You Think You Can Dance” - does that count?"
