<p>I havent used hotwire or priceline in a while, but when I did, I would see the rates on hotwire and bid 20% below them on Priceline and it usually worked. <p>BTW, even though my DH is at the top of the Hertz renter food chain (presidents circle or something) and he has found himself getting crappy cars or errors on the bill that have to get addressed. He never usd to be a complainer, but he is now! One car was simply nasty. Disgusting stains on the passengers seat. We took it back a day or two later and got a fresher car. It was gross!!</p>
<p>Car rental agencies used to “retire” cars with 20k or even less on the odometer, but because of the recent auto industry slump they tend to keep their cars longer. The last Hertz car we rented had 36k on the odometer. Lately, I have not seen much difference between Dollar and Hertz either.</p>
<p>Just an aside…I rarely make trip arrangements (H is the wizard at such things). But I used hotels.com to get a room for a trip that I’m making by myself and it was significantly cheaper than using tripadvisor or other sites. I can only hope nothing will go wrong when I go in a couple of weeks. </p>
<p>But I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it all was.</p>
<p>Not sure where you are flying to, but sometimes super low prices mean that the rental location isn’t on site at the airport, so check that out and ensure it’s either on site or has a continuous shuttle from the airport.</p>
