Dominique Strauss-Kahn case falls apart

OK…just saying: It just didn’t make sense.

First, a housekeeper ALWAYS keeps the door open when cleaning a room==the whole time. And a housekeeper cannot clean a room when guests are present. Security sees a housekeeping cart unattended and a housekeeper not accounted for…alarm bells.

Second: No one has ever said the man didn’t have mistresses. He did. No one has ever, to my knowledge accused him before this encounter. And in his position, with his financial resources it would have happened before…an accusation, no the act. She was, according the late night’s news, caught on tape the night before the incident, wondering how much this would be worth.

According the the French press (we were in Paris when this happened) she was not beaten up. And she has teeth.

Lest anyone think I have a laissez faire attitude about rape, I do not…

Interestingly the consensus at the YMCA (both among conservative and liberal guys) is that she was raped, but he’s payed everybody off to get this result. They said the person who is the liaison who deals with the victims quit yesterday. (i.e. was paid off). I’ve seen nothing on line to corroborate this theory.

One should be aware that even prostitutes can be raped, so it may be a case of something that started off consensual.

All of her lies are her own doing. Nobody was paid off to make her look worse. In fact, it was the DA himself that highlighted her obvious obfuscation of the truth.

If anything, people are jumping ship right now because the case just collapsed, and nobody wants to be associated with such a monumental blunder.

When the conversation was translated — a job completed only this Wednesday — investigators were alarmed: “She says words to the effect of, ‘Don’t worry, this guy has a lot of money. I know what I’m doing,’ ” the official said.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/02/nyregion/one-revelation-after-another-undercut-strauss-kahn-accusers-credibility.html</a></p>

The woman had repeatedly said that the Sofitel was her only source of income.

Now, investigators confronted her with the bank records.

The woman, silent, turned to Mr. Thompson, seemingly pleading for direction on how to respond. He seemed startled.

“He was speechless,” the well-placed official said.

<a href=“One Revelation After Another Undercut Strauss-Kahn Accuser’s Credibility - The New York Times”>One Revelation After Another Undercut Strauss-Kahn Accuser’s Credibility - The New York Times;

More details of her inconsistencies are showing up in articles.

Interesting that electronic data and analysis tripped her up several times - it also provided alibis for the Duke Lacrosse accused.

According to a recent NY Times article, she had a conversation with her boyfriend who had been arrested for some drug-related crime. The call was recorded and apparently she discussed how much money she could make, and told her boyfriend not to worry because she had everything under control. If there is anyone who still believes she was raped, it would take a sledge hammer to get you to change your mind.

I remember the other thread where many posters were not at all sympathetic to the fact that guys can get falsely accused because the girl may be mentally unbalanced or, in this case, had a monetary motive. I don’t get why the prosecutor doesn’t drop the charges; they have already practically ruined this guy’s life.

Since they released him on OR they probably are working their way around to a dismissal.

The NY DA may be worried about a lawsuit from Strauss-Kahn for false arrest, so may be a little wary about dropping the case outright … but it will probably end up that way.

DonnaL, is one of those posters who believes the female accuser regardless of the facts. Unless this woman actually confesses, DonnaL will back this woman no matter how incriminating and ludicrous her story. DonnaL is an example of why we need better laws to protect guys from women like this accuser. Who is going to help this guy put his life back together? It would be nice if DonnaL shows the real victim 1% of the concern she has for the accuser.

The bottom line is that in our system of justice, an accused is presumed innocent, and the prosecution bears the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Given these facts, how could they possibly sustain that?

There are 2 ways to go at this point. 1) Dismiss all charges outright, or 2) Let the case go forward on the theory that the woman is entitled to her day in court, and let a jury decide. #2 is what prosecutors sometimes do in regular (low profile) cases – typically in that setting a defense attorney will push for an early trial, perhaps even stipulate to a bench trial – and often the complaining witness is a no-show.

The other HUGE problem for her is that she now concedes to having lied in her asylum application – meaning that she may now face deportation. All the more reason for her to avoid a situation requiring her to testify under oath in court.

Calmom, I don’t think she is entitled to her day in court. It is the state prosecuting this case, not her. She has no credibility; the decent thing to do would be to immediately drop all charges. Anything less is a travesty of justice.

Maybe it’s a French thing, but I don’t understand how Strauss-Kahn’s wife can stand beside him in light of the fact that he’s admitted to having had consensual sex with the maid. Perhaps it’s that stereotype about French men and their thing for maids. Do French women commonly accept that if their men possess voracious sexual appetites, they’ll seek out a little somethin’ on the side from time to time?

I have to admit I don’t understand how a wealthy and powerful man like Strauss-Kahn could be so stupid as to have sex with a random Hotel maid. New York is full of “high class” escorts and call girls. Why wouldn’t he avail himself of such a resource if he “had a need”? Strauss-Kahn is supposed to be so smart, but it appears the head on his shoulders was not the one he was thinking with that a day…

Obviously, this story is still unfolding, but I think the maid is as good as deported. And Struass-Kahn may be France’s next President.

The New York City hotel maid who accused former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique-Strauss Kahn of sexual assault has allegedly worked as a prostitute, the New York Post reports.

A source close to the defense investigation told the Post that the Sofitel Hotel housekeeper would have sex with male guests at the hotel for money.

“There is information… of her getting extraordinary tips,” the source told the Post.

The source also said that the maid had “a lot of her expenses – hair braiding, salon expenses – paid for by men not related to her.”

[calmom’s earlier hypothesis appears correct]

I do not agree. I have yet to see anything the DA may have done that was not authorized by law. The fact that the woman “maid” this all up, is not the fault of the prosecution.

The language from the woman’s attorney, however, seems to raise a lot of risks of legal action against him. If he was smart, he would shut his mouth pretty quickly.

I noticed that he’s pretty loud out there but his actions seem counterproductive to his client. He’s putting out forensic information (which I actually appreciate) and some rhetoric which is inflammatory. After he speaks, the prosecution or police officials (unofficially) respond with their take on the forensic information.

Just wondering why he bolted to the airport without his phone so quickly if he was innocent. I am very disappointed that he is getting away with!

He didn’t bolt to the airport. He had lunch with someone near the hotel.

for me, one of the lessons of this incident is to take everything i read about an alleged crime with a huge grain of salt. most of the details that were reported, and coming from supposedly confident investigators, turned out to be significantly wrong.

The DA/police department (I have no idea as to who’s authority it was done under) have a major public relations faux pas: the perp walk of Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Imagine if an American presidential candidate was in a foreign country/accused of rape and paraded in front of the press. We would be, no matter our political affiliation/screaming. I suspect that the decision makers in this case have cursed their careers, permanently. There was such a rush to judgement, based, I suspect on class lines. And, a career maker or breaker for many involved.

parent57, what you say is untrue. What I posted when this story first came out a day or two ago was what I thought based on the facts then available, when the inconsistencies did not seem to have anything to do with her description of the assault itself. Now, the facts available have changed and my opinion has changed. Yes, I give the accuser in a case like this the benefit of the doubt, just as I’d give the benefit of the doubt to someone who said they’d been the victim of any other crime. But if facts come out revealing the contrary, I accept those facts. Your opinion that I’m some kind of zealot is simply nonsense, as well as personally insulting.
