Dominique Strauss-Kahn case falls apart

I was being sarcastic. I find it specially amusing because she herself lied so many times and misrepresented herself. Now she’s accusing another entity of the same.

She’s suing five reporters at the NY Post too.

You could say that she knows that she isn’t and wants to clear her name or that she doesn’t think that anyone can prove that she is or that the timeframe of any trial would be far enough out there to not affect the criminal matter.

For the NY Post, they cite source in the defense team. Presumably, they had multiple reporters looking at their evidence. Unless they were just taking them at their word - I would think that reporters would put on their skepticism hats first and require some documentation (receipts, video evidence, eyewitness testimony).

It seems like both teams are bringing out stuff that has been hidden in a kind of trial by media.

If it were any other newspaper, I might agree with you. But. Have you ever read the New York Post? I’d far sooner trust the National Enquirer to make sure they have a basis for their stories.

And I’m not saying I have any idea one way or the other whether or not the accusation of prostitution is true. Simply that I don’t trust the New York Post to have looked at underlying evidence before printing a story of this nature.

I don’t live in NY and normally don’t read the NY Post. Most of the stuff that I’ve read just quotes the NY Post so you get it even if you don’t read the NY Post.

The Enquirer was right on a number of stories: John Edwards, Tiger Woods, etc.

It’s really hard to say without hard evidence and there are various parties that don’t want to talk about certain things for obvious reasons. jsanche has a point - you have a tabloid vs a person that has admitted lying under oath multiple times along with some other problems. Does the NY Post have a bad track record? Do they get sued a lot? Do they win or lose those suits? I don’t know.

The pace of details emerging has accelerated.

The Enquirer likes to parcel out tidbits to coincide with new editions of their physical paper which I think was once a week. I don’t know whether the NYP is a daily or a weekly but, if the former, then it would seem to be in their financial interest to dribble things out over time.

The New York Post is a daily that’s been owned by Rupert Murdoch since the 1970’s, and has been notorious since the beginning of his reign for headlines like “Headless Body in Topless Bar,” and for cover photos of dead mobsters, the Son of Sam, etc. I’m sure it’s been sued a lot, but, for obvious reasons, today is a bad day to try to find anything on google about the history of libel suits against it, other than this one!

And I know the Enquirer has often proved right in recent years, which is why I mentioned it.

NEW YORK, July 6 (Reuters) - New York prosecutors and defense lawyers for former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn met on Wednesday as the sexual assault case against him appeared to be falling apart.

Neither side would say publicly what was on the agenda, though The New York Times reported they would discuss whether the charges can be resolved by a dismissal or plea agreement.

[UPDATE 1-Strauss-Kahn team meets prosecutors as case falters | Reuters](http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/07/06/strausskahn-idUSN1E7650UN20110706)

I wonder if he’d go for a misdemeanor at this point.

I’m having difficulty believing the NY Post story. It says not only that the maid was a prostitute, but also that the union assigned her to the Sofitel because she was an it received a percentage of her earnings.

Maybe I’m naive, but I find that story hard to believe.

Most unions have fees that the members have to pay to support the running of the Union.
