What happens if I don’t mail them? Will I be rejected? Or just inelegible for financial aid?

What are the possible repurcussions if we submit the forms late, like by a few weeks?
Also, why can’t colleges adopt a common policy on finaid? They all have different deadlines, some 2/1, some 2/15, some 3/1. Some want the FAFSA, some want the CSS, some both, and some want additional forms. Some need tax forms, some want just 2005.
On the same note, the CSS costs so much money! It’s $18 a piece, so if I send it to six colleges, that’s $95 ($5 base fee).
Sorry for all my ranting.

Slorg - if you do not submit a complete financial aid application, then you will not be reviewed for financial aid but it will not affect your admissions decision. They are no two separate processes.

maguo1 - if financial aid documentation is received late, then your financial aid package will be affected - it will be less. Applicants who apply on time I packaged first, whereas late applicants are packaged after when less money is available. There is no common policy on Financial Aid, since every school packages students differently, because every college has a different amount of aid they can offer.

I just called the financial aid office today and they said only the 2004 tax returns are due on Feb. 15th, and 2005s are just due ASAP. I think someone said the 2005s were due Feb. 15 as well, so if anyone else out there was worried, don’t be!

Thanks estrella! :)

Okay, this is really confusing. I’m hearing all different things. AdminDaniel, can you confirm these dates for us?

^seriously…the ED facts page says april 15th, the financial aid place said postmark feb. 1st, forums said deadline feb. 1st, and then the extension was said to be feb. 15th, and now this!

And it’s not just JHU, but all of my colleges! I thought the process was pretty much over once sent my app out.

Since there is so much confusion, I took the time to speak with the Director of Financial Aid and get accurate answers to your questions. Please see this JHU Message Board post:

Hope it helps!

wow that must such maguo1 because i’m stressing out about ONLY jhu…i can’t imagine going through this for multiple colleges haha.

and thanks daniel!

We should spread the words to other people.

I thought all colleges are requesting 2005 Tax Return ASAP. Isn’t that right?

monii, JHU is the only college you applied to? You have that much confidence in your abilities?

Quick question -

So CSS, FAFSA, the Non-custodial profile, Business/farm suppliment, and my 2004 tax returns are due by Feb 15th.

What about all the 2005 stuff? W-2’s and 2005 tax returns to be specific. Are those also due Feb 15th, or on a later date?

ETA: Sorry, question answered. I actually read above.

yeah i was confused by the 2005 stuff at first too. nice sn estrella!

You should read the JHU message board post: http://messageboard.chatuniversity.com/jhuboard/default.asp?fid=784

(1) The FAFSA and CSS Profile must be submitted by February 15th. If submitted later than that date your financial aid application will be considered late and that will impact the package offered.

(2) Along with the FAFSA and CSS Profile you must submit 2004 tax returns for your parents/guardians and yourself if applicable.

(3) 2005 tax returns are also required and we request you submit them as soon as possible. They are officially due at the time of enrollment, but the sooner you get the returns in the sooner your “estimated” award can become an “actual” award.

My non-custodial parent does his taxes on a weird quarterly schedule, or something like that. My point is that his taxes are usually not completed until June. Should I call the school or is that not a problem?

Haha, I like your SN too! All the best people use ‘estrella’ in their SN.
