I was looking at renters insurance and found two policies that include liability and personal property coverage, both look good for my college bound D and my nephew who just graduated. Amazing how good the coverage is for the cost. Like I said before - it seems like universities should just include it with the cost of living on campus.

I am only including the links for convenience - not as a recommendation because I am still researching the differences.

Let me know if there are others that you suggest I look at that include both liability and personal property protection.

Another vote for CSI. I asked them when we first got it for our sons freshman year if they would cover items if he was away from his dorm room, like if his phone or laptop was stolen off his person and they said it would be. They also said his stuff would be covered if he was abroad. When my older son went abroad his camera, expensive ear buds and nice jacket were stolen from a pub. It would have been nice had he been insured. Their FAQ page is helpful: [CSI FAQ](Frequently Asked Questions)

Such a good reminder. Had totally forgotten about this for S. Thanks!

Another reminder, for those living in big cities (we live in a fairly safe small city). Car stereos are apparently still stolen in big cities, and his was, when parked in a ramp long term at his big city school. Shortly thereafter he got comprehensive for his car.

We have NSSI for our DS, which is very similar to CSI. The benefit over regular renters’ insurance is that it covers accidental damage too, and has a very low deductible. But NSSI doesn’t include liability. CSI offers liability, but not in NY. Once they move out of a dorm into an apartment, they need liability in addition to coverage for their belongings. I haven’t figured out our next move yet.
