Well, I’m not a student yet, but I’ve been doing some research for a while (speaking with students etc) and here’s what scarce info I can provide:

• If you’re a Bio Major, North Campus is a better choice in terms of proximity, you’ll be closer to all of your classes. This isn’t really stopping me from applying to some south campus dorms, however.
• The rumors go that the “party” dorms are something like this: Allison, Bobb, Elder, McCulloch, and 1835 Hinman. The only thing I know for sure is that Bobb-McCulloch (they practically go together) truly earned that reputation. My cousin, who is in his junior year, spent his sophomore year there and hated the level of noise, substances present, etc. He started his description by merely saying that it was a “**** dorm”. From that alone, I’m backing away from it. Elder is an all freshmen dorm, so there will certainly be better chances to make friends that will last a long time. Allison and 1835 Hinman (both South Campus) are also nice but chances are you’d be best suited to Elder. Everyone I’ve talked to who was in Elder loved it.
