I would say that even though UIUC is a known party school, that doesn’t mean that everyone is partying. There are most definitely plenty of students just like your son who he can make friends with.
I would tell you son to think carefully of which school he wants to attend to because even though UIUC has a partying reputation, the job prospects with a degree from UIUC especially for engineering are very good.
Lastly, if your son doesn’t want to party, he doesn’t have to.
