Double majoring

I assume you’ve already looked at the chart which shows exactly how much credit you’ll get based on your AP scores…

I believe you would also have to be accepted into the Business School–if you get great grades for your first semester or two at UMD, this is quite possible… You’ll need to sit down and do some calculating regarding the requirements of each major, how much overlap there is, etc. You can find all this stuff in the UMD online catalog, etc. There is also a difference between a double major and a double degree. (I don’t enough to tell you what the diffs are, but DD1 will be graduating with double degrees in Astronomy and Physics in May…she will have 160+ hours). She had 50+ hours of credit from AP courses when she came to UMD. Because of research time and/or TA responsibilities, she generally took lighter loads each semester, and did not do summer school. If she had taken full loads each semester and potentially taken summer school courses, she may have had time to do a semester abroad…due to her research interests, however, it didn’t work in her case. She was going to do a winter session in January abroad her sophomore year, but after looking at the program and realizing that she wouldn’t get (and didn’t need) the credit, she traveled to Europe on her own that year.

I would just caution you to plan for some hiccups…you don’t want to get yourself boxed in so that you can’t drop a class if you really want to. It saved DD1’s sanity a couple of different semesters to be able to do this.
