Dress codes

hi!
so i just committed to my school buuuuut
IM NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR JEANS??? what do i wear??? do i need to go shopping???

did i PM you? it says it was posted in prep school admissions

Look at their social media to see what students wear. My guess is that a few pairs of colored corduroys and colored chinos will do the trick.

If all you own is Jeans, and you can’t wear those, then yes…you will need to go shopping. Is there a consignment store near you, or even Goodwill? You might find some excellent bargains there.

i have some skirts but i worry they’ll be too short. i also have heaps of cargo pants so i guess that’s the vibe for next year…

My daughter went on her school’s various instagram pages and looked at what everyone was wearing as a way of interpreting the dress code into real life if that makes sense. Because her school happens to have such a laid-back dress code it seemed almost more confusing than the schools who are stricter. So that’s how we got ideas of what would work. I would say she has much better fall/spring options, but I think warmer is easier.

This seems a bit dramatic. It’s not that hard to get some new pants or skirts. If money is an issue, Goodwill is great and, if mom is against it, then Target or Walmart or heck even Amazon might have some bargains. Of all of the challenges you will face at school, this ranks almost at the bottom in terms of the difficulty of resolving it.

Sounds like you will need to start. Unless you do in fact have enough cargo pants to get you through. Otherwise, once you know your size and what fits you well, it shouldn’t be too hard to get a few pairs of pants that will be acceptable to you. Black and khaki are usually easy to match with tops.

Hi - I am sure there are Pennington parents and students that can help give you some guidance. Will you be boarding? As a Boarder (or even a day student) I imagine you can wear jeans when not in class and on weekends and at various activities so some of your clothes will surely come in handy. There are lots of cost effective options and truthfully some less expensive sold as school uniform basics, even if not required, last and launder easily. Most kids rotate the same things, so you do not need a lot of clothes. Sorry I do not know where you are from. NJ has seasons and can get a bit cold. So see if leggings under a skirt is allowed, works. Plus in the colder months you may just want pants walking between buildings.I appreciate that you are done with the stress of applying and getting accepted. So now all that energy is being rotated to getting ready for this next chapter. Embrace it - there are always solutions. And lots of Ppl here to give advice.

You’ll have ample opportunity to go secondhand shopping without mom once you get to BS.
