"Dress your age"......or not?

True Mom Jeans have a little bit of elastic at the waist (think Chicos) sort of like toddler-pants. They have a straight to narrow leg with no flare at the bottom. They have about a 10 inch rise so the waist is exactly at or even above your “true” waist.

dak - mom jeans are the type with a very high waist, and sometimes pleats, which give the behind that pear shape which is currently so unfashionable.
Apparently, that pear shape is somewhat protective against heart disease. Apple shaped people are more at risk for heart problems.
I knew those saddle bags would come in handy someday!

Perhaps the inner driver wishes she had a belly ring to flash at sexy young neo-cons?

Woo hoo!! driver!! Let that hippie spirit come out and play!

I only know them as “mom jeans” from watching a hilarious Saturday Night Live skit about them! Basically, mootmom has it pegged…I don’t wear low rise either…mid-rise instead, and even my teenage D’s prefer them.

ROFL!! My D’s rate mine (usually I just use THEIRS!)…so I could call my system “mygenesratemyjeans.com” ;)

~b.

OMG!!! I just spit my tea all over my keyboard! “toddler-pants”!!! ~b.

LOLOLOL!!!

Does that mean <50 years old with straight teeth?

genesratemy jeans, excatly!

Oprah is having a show about jeans on her show today.

OK. So I wouldn’t wear a pair of jeans with pleats in them if you paid me. I don’t think they even allow them across the Silicon Valley border:). I guess I don’t wear Mom jeans. But I sure don’t wear teen jeans - so what is the new term?

These are what I am talking about. They call them “mid-rise”. I was so excited when I found them…

Yes yes, mid-rise! Go mid-rise! (See my post #58 wherein I get excited about them, too. )

Yep, wearin’ midrise here too… alu, those are great, but pricey! Do they ever have sales?? It’s says they’re stretchy…I assume they have that couple of % lycra?

I"m glad I started this thread. I’ve learned ALOT about jeans, that’s for sure! Except in our hot Florida summers I wear jeans every day. Most of my wardrobe comes from the GAP which I"ve recently rediscovered after about ?? 25 years. Their jeans have a bit of stretch, worn at the hip with a flare. What I won’t wear is low cut anything, or tight tight tight clothing. and not alot of skin, not anymore. Sometimes its best to leave a 50 yr. old’s physique to the imagination! ha!..(plus skin cancer scare…not worth it!)…

dke, it is hot here too, so jeans are only for days below 70 degrees. I also love GAP jeans, worn at the hip with a little flare (but with shirts that cover the tummy!!!) I wear alot of “skorts”. I love those things and probably have 20 of them in everything from prints to denim and khaki. They are like mid thigh minis, but with shorts underneath (which I love for modesty needed when sitting on bleachers!).

Funny story about dressing my age… I have always been a bikini wearer. I have a “youthful” figure and have been blessed with good genes (thank you Mom and Dad). Well, this past spring break, we went on a cruise with a number of families, all with junior sons, my son’s friends. I went bathing suit shopping and came home with a really cute tankini, I told my S I wanted his approval. I pulled out the top and he said, “ok”, then I pulled out the bottom and he was a total “two thumbs up!” It has a SKIRT attached!! I never in my life thought I would wear a swim suit with a SKIRT! But, it is really cute and saved him from having to hang with his friends on the ship while his mom was sitting around in a bikini!! I totally believe in dressing my age!! And I know my S’s definitely want me to!!

Pictures???

Yes on the couple percent of lycra. Sales, yes, Nordstorm is usually pretty good with sales.

I guess I will have to hit up Nordstrom after I go to REI and pick up my new backpacking tent
I am getting some new clothes to wear to graduation in a couple weeks- call me shallow- but I will be seeing my inlaws for the first time in about 6 years, and they are unusually catty about my appearance-not that I really care what they think- but I want to look nice
good thoughts on the bathing suits with skirts- I saw some of those in a catalog and thought they would look cute- but I may just stick with my suit and a sarong- not that I have a boat to loll around on ;)

Someone sent this to me in email lol:

“Clothing for the paranoid”

TINFOIL hats may protect the brain from dangerous radio frequencies and mind-contol rays. Or they may not, according to a group of students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who tested three standard designs with equipment costing $250,000. They found the foil actually amplified some radio signals - especially those on frequencies used by the US government - by a factor of up to 100. In summing up, they say: ‘It requires no stretch of the imagination to conclude that the current helmet craze is likely to have been propagated by the government, possibly with the involvement of the FCC [Federal Communications Commission]. We hope this report will encourage the paranoid community to develop improved helmet designs to avoid falling prey to these shortcomings.’

Of course the real problem with the classic tinfoil hat is that wearing one makes you look like a nut. Now Less EMF, a company in Albany, New York, allows you to play safe with more style. It makes a line of clothing woven from thread with a core of copper-silver wire that provides electromagnetic shielding (<a href=“Clothing – Less EMF)%5B/url%5D”>www.lessemf.com/personal.html).

With a baseball-style cap woven from the fabric, you can ‘provide your brain a quiet place without interference to your mental process from RF radiation’, the company’s website says. At $29.95, it costs much more than a roll of aluminium foil, but wins hands down for style. For protection at work you can buy a shirt woven from metal-core thread for $89.95. If you budget is tight, Less EMF also offers shielded undergarments - best worn over standard cotton ones to keep the conductive fabric from touching your skin. A camisole is $38, boxer shorts and T-shirts are $64. And for a worry-free night’s sleep, you can shield yourself and your bed with a $499.95 canopy woven from silver/nylon thread.

my mom looks about 10 years younger than she is, and she dresses in american eagle and abercrombie with me - along with her jcpenny and old navy finds! she picks and chooses though, weeding out more classic pieces - think nice sweaters and straight-leg jeans - from the more youthful stores.

LOL tsdad, I have been waiting for that!!!
