Dressing Young 2026

I’d wear them with Birkenstock Boston clogs, but that may be too similar to Danskos? I’d also wear them with white leather sneakers (not running shoe style). I also have some leather and sued “slip on” shoes that are a step up from sneakers. I don’t know if any of these is fashionable though.

Browsing through the recent offerings from higher end brands can give some idea of what footwear styles might be “in.”

That said, I still wear my “combat” and “skater” boots.

Haha! I was cured of my interest in “fashionable” footwear” when one pair of brand new sandals I wore twice cause me to have to wear ugly clunky expensive leather oxfords & orthotics for 2 years in college! Never again! I only buy & wear comfortable footwear!

IMO, western style boots and booties are always great (and fashionable!) with bootcut jeans. Suede and soft leather that can take the shape of the foot is way more comfortable than rigid leather.

Definitely on leather and suede booties. They don’t even have to be western style for me.

I like pointy-toed flats with boot cut jeans, also booties with a heel or Chelsea boots.

Thanks, ladies! I hadn’t really thought of wearing sneakers with the jeans (I wear them with my yoga pants so much I put them in the athleisurewear category). I have some flat Xero shoes that could work. My daughter wears her fancy sneakers from Japan with her wide legged jeans and looks cute (although I know I can’t pull off her outfits ).

Love the soft suede boot idea. I can’t wear anything stiff or narrow that crushes the front of my foot - so something like that could work.

I’m just so, so happy to see low-rise flare and bootcut jeans back (I have big feet for my height and they camouflage + long legs/shorter torso - so low rise balances).

That said - there seems to be a jean style for everyone this year! (High rise, wide-leg, mid-rise, etc..)

I don’t wear any flat shoes because I have very flat feet and I also don’t think they look good on me with boot cut or wider leg jeans. I either wear wedge sandals ( a lot of warm weather here) or wedge booties (suede or leather). I like a lot of the Toms booties and they are very comfortable even with a heel.

One of the reasons it made sense for me recently to get black Madewell jeans is that I have a variety of boot-like black footwear. My favorite is low, more like a shoe… alas, they are pretty worn out and not as comfortable as they used to be.

I love a pair of black jeans! Can be dressed up or down. Classic.

@elena13 I also kind of like something with more substance in a shoe for wide leg or boot cut. Feels like it dresses the outfit up a bit more. Just finding it something that isn’t stiff & crushing is a challenge!

Have you tried Rothy’s booties?

I’m a fan of black jeans as well. even when they start to fade, they still look pretty nice.

I got a pair of Rothy booties last year. They are surprisingly comfortable and attractive. I had put off getting a pair, I have picky hard to fit feet. They worked out for me and I’m really happy I have them

I haven’t - but checked them out! They look a little skinny in the front for my bunion. Appreciate the suggestions tho!

They are very stretchy fabric that’s also water resistant. That’s why I recommend them.

I don’t think they ran wide which is good for my slim foot.

It’s fabric that does have some give but am not sure if that would help with a bunion.

I will check them out!

For anybody interested in the Tom’s bootie (mailorder), an ad just told me to use FRIENDS30 for 30% off. ($70 instead of $100). Not sure about return policy, so this would work best for somebody. who has already had a pair and knows sizing / comfort factors.
