Dressing Young (Part 1)

Mafool - I love that one and this one:

[Printed -Dresses -Anthropologie.com](http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/category.jsp?itemCount=7&pushId=CLOTHES-DRESSES-PRINTED&selectedProductSize=&id=CLOTHES-DRESSES-PRINTED&startValue=29&defaultSort=&navCount=20&sortView=&prevVisit=true&templa)

The other dress is adorable, too, SewHappy.

Oh, dear, I HAVE to get a report finished!!!

sewhappy: go out on a limb and try a print!

You can come to my fashion-rut-anonymous meetings

Thank you, Mafool, for providing my first belly laugh of the day.

Off to Anthropologie now. Thank you, Dear Ones!

Opinions?

Is this too young/odd/whatever for this mid 50’s woman? 5’5, usually a size 8 but who knows these days (have some 4’s and 6’s), pretty proportionate, just a little bit busty for some styles (and my taste).

What do you think?

Mafool - the speckled ink dress will look vavavoom as long as your stomach is perfectly flat. After three kids, mine is not, no matter how much I exercise!

IMO most Anthropologie dresses look better on the hanger.

Zipyourlips - I’ve never heard of this line - the styles are beautiful and the shoes can be ordered directly on the Dana Davis site. I’m going to pass the link along to my MIL - she’s always looking for a comfortable, yet fashionable shoe.

Gourmetmom, Endless carries Dana Davis shoes! To the poster who provided the link - big thanks! I’m going to give them a try, because they might be just the right type of shoe for work - I spend a lot of time on my feet, so I own a lot of balck Soffts (Cole Haan just does not work for my feet!), and I feel that I need some diversity in my shoe collection!

Speaking of dresses… My D got her Title Nine catalog in the mail, and some of the dresses in it are so cute, I’m tempted to order them. But I have to continue my water diet for much longer if I do that :D

Funny, they just featured this Anthopologie dress on Corporette…

Gourmetmom, I clicked on the photos of the models wearing the Anthropologie dresses and noticed the same thing: some of the dresses do not even look good on the models.

mafool, thanks for all the great links! I would also like to join the fashion-rut-anonymous group. I’ve taken small steps like buying prints (sewhappy, try them - black and white barely even counts!) and a few colorful tops and am very happy I did. Otherwise I would have spent the rest of my life in black, navy, brown, and the like. Very classic, never inappropriate, but ultimately a bit boring.

How to look old (and somewhat trashy):

[2010 Costume Institute Gala - omg! photos on Yahoo!](http://omg.yahoo.com/photos/2010-costume-institute-gala/3832?nc#id=12)

What was she thinking?

Okay, I followed that link - 90% of the dresses the stars wore to the Fashion Institute Gala were horrific in one way or another. My D’s drill team banquet dress that she bought at Century 21 for $119 looks worlds better than most of those dresses!!!

Booklady, me too. I have to really stalk any adventurous clothing and have to super love it when I buy it.

Thank you, BunsenBurner, another belly laugh and any day with 2 is a very good day.

My 16-year-old 5’8" size 2 daughter can wear gladiators. My 54-year-old friend who is 5’4" and robust cannot but does and it is really, really unfortunate. How do you explain this to a friend? I just don’t go there. Concentrate on all the stuff she’s smart about.

For fashion, I come to my brilliant friends on this thread.

Did go to Anthropologie and it felt like I was trying to channel “hippy” and it just doesn’t work for me. Still looking . . .

Some good “dressing young” tips can be found in this article:

LOL - Now I have a (lame) excuse to get myself a pair of cute Burberry boots :D

Oh my. I know of what she speaks.

And btw, I once met Hillary Clinton when she was wearing a periwinkle pantsuit and guess what? She was just exquisite. Like a little doll. So tiny and lovely skin and adorable in that pantsuit that just never works on TV or in photos.

Hunter wellies:).

I don’t remember who was looking for summer dresses for less than $150.

A Garnet Hill catalog came today. Here are a couple of dresses:

Looked at Von Maur shoes and and thought I had drifted over from “dressing young” to “dressing like a dominatrix”
