Forgive me if this has already been discussed: I bought a pair of those short little booties that one is to wear with skirts. Black. Is one expected to wear hose or tights with those? My younger D wears them bare-legged, but she is 14 and has awesome long legs.

I would wear the booties with tights in the same color. The continuous line will elongate your leg and soften the look. You don’t want the booties to be the first thing people notice.

Opaque black tights? Or sheer black hose? Or textured?

Tights, opaque and/or textured. Go light on the texture though. Meaning, cable or some other clean line pattern. Leave the wild ones for the youngins. Also, pass on the sheer ones.

Can we see a picture of the type of booties you are speaking of Missypie? I’m curious…!

Here they are:

I bought them in black.

I’m such a wimp, I can’t do heels like that! ^^ Cute though! (but gotta admit, boots = cold weather to me, and I HATE to think of cold weather!)

I can wear heels up to 3" all day with no problem. But 3" is my limit.

Missy, that is my limit as well. Plus a bit of girth helps. I’m not one for a 3" spike heel.

Bunsen, the Adele flats are in the latest online mailing from Athleta. Thought they might have your size… Here’s the link:

Absolutely agree with Gourmetmom and denise on the tights. Same color, opaque, wool-yish. I’d be very careful with texture, as the boots have that pleating in the front, and too much is just that, too much:).

Bunsen, Nordstrom has the black Born Adele flats in 9.5 back in stock if you still want them. (Something else we have in common–the same shoe size!)

I think I am loosing my mind in my dotage. First, skinny jeans. Now I am drooling over a pair of gladiator pumps with 3 inch heels, with rhinestones to boot. :o

Before this madness, I only wear Mephistoes and Danskos - comfort shoes.

Munchkin, that is why we need each other…to help us decide what is current and cool vs. what is way too young/too much.

This is the shoe I ended up buying. I went everywhere and tried on everything, and I swear these are the most comfortable flats in the universe. It’s more than I’ve ever spent on shoes, but after thinking about it for 3 days, I decided they were worth it. I need flats for work, and the color goes with both black & brown, so I’m pretty much covered. Sad to have to set aside my 3 inch heels, but what can a girl do? Hopefully my knees will return to normal someday.

Very nice flats blankmind! They look comfy. Ouch on the price. But one good pair is better than 10 bad/mediocre pairs for sure…hope they last a real long time for you.

They are really nice toneranger, they would have to be for that price! I got the pewter/black combo, which I can’t seem to link to, but the color works with my few brown outfits and almost all of my black fall/winter stuff so these along with my riding boots ought to get me through til spring. I’m assuming that by then I’ll be able to wear heels again.

blankmind, sorry if I missed it but which riding boots did you get? I’ve been looking for just the right ones for a long time. I don’t want lots of straps and buckles.

I got my riding boots last year. They are by Circa Joan and David. They have two small buckles, one at the ankle and one at the top, but they are soft and comfy.

Oh thanks. I think those may be the same boots my D bought at Nordstroms. She practically wore them out during a semester in London.
