Dressing Young (Part 1)

This happens to be my fav sweater. It’s from Nordy’s and made by Halogen. I bought it in 3 colors last winter then added 3 more this winter. My daughter and I share them. It’s a light but warm wool with two pockets and works great over jeans, skirts and a lot of dresses. For $69 I think it’s a real bargain.

Nice sweater, sewhappy! I try hard not to buy multiples of the same item, but sometimes it is impossible to hold back if you fall in love with something  I own several Bashina blouses, and I’m eyeing another one, since DD “permanently borrowed” one of my shirts.

My update: my RL package came last Friday, and the chocolate suede pumps are simply gorgeous. They fit like a glove (sock?) and are nicely cushioned. For under $40, that was my good buy of the year!

Oh my. I live for the great pieces that fit and work and I can buy in lots of colors. Always searching for that, actually. Here’s my ballet flat that I now own in four colors:

Something about that brass ring that gives it a little Western feel no matter what the color - my latest was the violet, which I have not worn but my daughter has.

I like to find the great enduring piece that works for me. My most fav tee shirt is from Gap that I purchased 7 years ago in 7 colors!

Anyway. Busen, you must have a fantastic figure to pull off those Bashina blouses - they are perfection, a look I’m never quite comfortable attempting to wear. I do much better in the deliberately wrinkled (and cheaper!) J Crew blouses.

sewhappy: I have three of those Halogen cardigans too! I have black, light gray, and dark purple. I also like to purchase mutliple colors of items that work for me. That sweater was on sale at the big summer Nordstrom anniversary sale. I bought one for my D at the sale for her birthday. She wears hers with thick leggings and boots.

I love wool sweaters and this winter that is all that I am wearing (plus jeans or yoga pants, of course, and my furry-lined boots). Anything else and I’m freezing.

Not really, but thanks! Here is a little secret: those blouses look like they are buttoned down, yet they do not have any buttons on the front (only a small collar button); instead, the fitted blouse look is achieved with the help of the two zippers in the side seams. This is a dream shirt for ladies with bigger chests, because no matter how you twist or turn, there are no gaping button holes on the front!!!

Switching topics a bit… I can’t wait for the weather to become a little warmer so I can finally wear my Christmas gift! Meanwile, I was ■■■■■■■■ the web trying to educate myself in scarf tying techniques and found a fabulous resource for scarf lovers:

[The How-To Guide for Scarves!!!](http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes-reference-library/the-how-to-guide-for-scarves-no-chatter-189943.html)

Some of these techniques require a PhD in scarf tying!

Checked out our new Forever 21 just for fun last night. Too young for me (skirts way too short for cellulite here) but I got a kick out of the place, and of course, the prices. Got two workout jackets for fitness class …eek.

their prices are good- I bought a pair of jeans for $6 that I destroyed for a Halloween costume- but now I wish I had another.

I am going to take a trip this summer ( to the middle of the country  ) & I know enough not to wear mom jeans- it is hard to believe I used to read Vogue & WWD religiously.
( however- jumpsuits & high heeled clogs? I will leave that for the 14yr olds with too big of an allowance)

Here’s my bargain of 2011 so far! I went to Nordstrom Rack today and found two of the Halogen boyfriend cardigans in merino wool we discussed a couple of days ago. They were on sale for $14 each! Now I have five of them! The colors of these are light green and mustard gold. Those colors must be older ones, but will be fine for spring, and I’m always cold so they work for me.

Bargains like that make my day.

Nice catch, bookiemom! The clearance deals at NR are amazing, but one has to devote a good couple of hours to this treasurure hunt. My inner gatherer does not mind (when I have the time to do so). :)

Does anyone have a problem with their Ds “borrowing” stuff from their closets? My college student so far has borrowed 3 of my favorite shirts (A/X, Boss and BCBG), a pair of my David Kahn jeans (“wow, mom, they fit so well!” - duh, they are designed for people with curves), my leather jacket, and my suede wedge boots! Ouch. On the one hand, I feel honored that my wardrobe was deemed stylish enough for 20-yr olds, but on the other hand, my closet has been depleted…

And your nice leather flats last summer, don’t forget!

Yikes, bookiemom, you are right! And my Brooks Glycerin 6 running shoes! She tried to steal my tall boots, but here calves are a bit too wide for them, so, phew, I still have my favorite tall boots! Her big sister ended up with my Coach shoes from NR  I guess there is a downside to “dressing young” when you have daughters! :)

BB,
I think its so flattering that your dtrs want your clothes. It gives you an excuse to shop more. My mom was always bigger than I was, so I never could “borrow” a thing from her.
I do miss the days of shopping and lunching together.

My g/fs shop with their dtrs over visits, but I rarely hear of nice bonding/shopping times with sons.

Daughter is four inches shorter - so no problem.

I like this dress but don’t know how the top would fit a big bust. I really have no curves for hips and rear…just boobs and belly (which I hope Spanx will suck in!) Wish it was in a different color for the wedding. The groom’s mom already bought her dress. It is black, sleeveless and not long. D1 didn’t know exactly what length.

That dress is GORGEOUS! I love it!

order it and see!

from one of the reviews:
The dress is beautiful. It just didn’t fit right as it was too small on top & I’m not that heavy on top! It is very slenderizing, but I would recommend getting an extra size up to be comfortable

Trust me, that is putting it mildly! :D

I have no sons to comment about, but my clothes shopping trips with DH are not bonding, for sure! :)

I got this from a friend - my, oh my!

[What the guys think of your fashion](<a href=“Match | Start Something Great”>Match | Start Something Great)

NMinn - I LOVE the dress! Yes, order it and see how it fits. Nordy’s has the best return policies!

NM - another yes vote for the dress - love it!

NM, love the dress and love the color but I know that the color would do nothing for me. I can do aquas and baby blues, but anything approaching navy is unflattering on me.
