Women have been having problems with sizing of clothing–forever! Belts are just a small part of the problem, but one of the issues with belts is WHERE they heck on the body they should be worn for women–at the natural waist, hip, somewhere else? It’s maddening that I have perfectly good belts that only fit on one part or the other of my body.

Sizing is so challenging, we rarely buy if we can’t try things on since we hate shipping things back & forth. For S for Christmas, I bought things postage free only if they had a local store I could return to. He only kept ONE pair of slacks because it was the only one that fit out of a dozen!

So I bought this summer dress at Talbots last September on deep discount without even trying it on. Wore it today with a leather belt and got a LOT of compliments and felt just really good wearing it. Of course, it’s not online anymore but am showing a size 14 version here on ebay. I bought it in the 4P and it fits beautifully. I think I paid $20 for it. Talk about “Christmas in June”!

I need to try their dresses again. Usually, the waist isn’t in the right spot for me and who wants to tie a belt around their ribcage (little exaggeration).

I went to Nordstrom to look fo “lab appropriate shoes” for D and walked out with this jacket (50% off) in addition to sevreral shoe boxes.

I’ve been looking for a white blazer for quite a while, and this one was just perfect. The weather has cooled down this week, so this blazer will be just perfect for keeping me warm and looking summery at the same time. I think I can even wear it with a denim pencil skirt and Alumother’s Sperrys :)

sewhappy - that dress looks so much like the linen EF dress I got! So of course I think it’s lovely:). And BB, OUR Sperrys. OURs.:). Your new jacket just made me say out loud, “Too cute! TOOOO cute!”

^^ Thanks zoeydoggie ! I am heading to Harrisburg, PA and I am positive there is a Macy’s there. I wonder if they have that particular style though - it seemed to be very popular. Maybe I should chance it, since I eventually gave up on Zappos after 54 minutes of holding.

Gourmetmom, I love your shoe choice. Neutral, summery wedge espadrille with personality. Can be worn with either pants or skirts! And on sale.

I intend to go to the mall later in the day to return a pair of flats rejected by DD, and I will swing by the KM store. The store seems to have a good selection of what is offered on their website, and I’m almostr sure they will have the pants in the Gourmetmom’s link. My findings will be posted here later today or tomorrow.

Believe it or not, I have a shopping rant. I’m so tired of being a personal shopper for my family! These past two weeks have been especially tiresome. DD who generally likes to shop was too busy because her bf was in town, yet she needed closed toe shoes for the lab. H never shops, he prefers to try tings on in the comfort of our house. He’d choose a trip to the dentist over a trip to the mall any day of the week. Since he was going on a long business trip abroad that potentially involved meetings with some state policy makers, he needed a few additions to his wardrobe, such as new shoes, a light blue shirt or two, etc., to look official. Now I have a pile of stuff to return and a couple of boxes to ship back…

I took advantage of DH’s absence and went through his half of the closet discarding a bunch of clothes. How many ratty, holey RL and Burberry polos does a man need for mowing the lawn and fixing the gutters? A couple will do. DH does not buy work clothes - his old business casual stuff becomes his yard work clothes, but then he never throws anything away. Sigh.

Gourmetmom - Great shoes. Classic, comfortable, elegant but casual. And those are the pants I’m thinking about. My concern is not the high waist - I’m long in the body - but the cropped ankles. I don’t wear cropped pants much, as the corollary to long in the body is short in the legs. I am hoping that “ankle length” for these might be “top of the arch” length on me. BB - how is their sizing? Is their 4 a J. Crew 4? A Macy’s 4? A Chanel 40? :).

“Is their 4 a J. Crew 4? A Macy’s 4? A Chanel 40?”

LOL. Sizing systems galore! I have never tried Chanel clothes. If I cannot afford it, I pass. As far as Macy’s goes, I’m either a 0 or a 2. Italians seem to be pretty consistent in their sizing. I wear size 42 Italian, which loosely translates into US… nevermind, I’m already confused. Okay, I wear 6 US in Burberry (British 10) and 27 in jeans. My KM skirt is size 6, so I think in these I would try a 6. I need to pack a measuring tape with me when I go to the mall. :)

BB, it sounds like you are a smallish six. I have the opposite problem, Alumother, short waist and long legs, so that higher waist could be a problem. I do like a cropped pant - stopping at the anklebone - in the summer to show off pretty sandals, but a straight leg that doesn’t narrow too much at the ankle. I can’t wait for BB’s report!

I bought a couple pairs of J.Crew Oxford Scout pants and they are just terrible. Baggy in the hips/thighs and very fitted at the ankle, so that they don’t hang straight. I washed them thinking that it would help, so they are unreturnable. So unflattering that even my H mentioned the poor fit and he never comments on pants. I don’t know what I was thinking - they’ve been relegated to gardening wear. J.Crew has really lost it lately.
