mathmom, those are cute! Bass makes good quality, sturdy shoes. I think they can be treated with a waterproofing spray. They have synthetic soles which is also helpful. I have several pairs of suede boots that survived multiple years of commute to work in my wet climate.

For those who are wavering on a Cole Haan purchase, they usually have a “friends and family” type event sometime in September. If you sign up to get on their mailing list, they’ll notify you when they’re having the event for 25% off.

I really need to remember about the waterproofing spray. We own it, I just never think to spray my shoes before I ruin them! Luckily we are just talking Merrels, but still!

A few weeks ago, when we had a small discussion of attire for air travel, yoga pants came up as a favorite travel wardrobe piece. I flew twice in the past week, and both times wore my black Lulu yoga leggings with a long tunic dress. Apparently, I (and other CCers)scored well on the plane fashion test:

[Pants on a Plane!](<a href=“Are yoga pants on a plane in bad taste?”>Are yoga pants on a plane in bad taste?)

In other BB fashion news, our discussion of purses and the rapidly approaching fall led to an impulse buy of Tod’s boots. :)

Oohhh please describe the boots! I love boots and can’t wait to wear mine. Weather here has been crazy, in the 40s in the morning but 70 by midday. I have seen people in cords and boots next to folks in flip flops and shorts.

I was at a funky outdoor market this weekend and saw lots of shorter boots. Ones that go only to mid calf. Did I miss a memo? Is this now a trend? They were paired with dresses and skinny pants.

Not sure I can pull off the dresses and short boot look at my age though

Where do you sign up for this? On a website? Please let us know. I’m a huge fan of Cole Haan shoes–just bought this pair from Amazon last week.

Bromfield – I signed up for the mailing list at one of their stores. But it looks like you can also do it through their website. Once you’re on their email list they’ll start sending you info on all of their sales. https://www.colehaan.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-ColeHaan_US-Site/en_US/Account-StartRegister

I am thinking of “investing” in some really nice leather riding boots, but I can’t decide if it is more practical to get brown or black. I live near NYC.

surfcity, I wear a short dress, Dickers (ankle boots), and leggings at 56. Nobody has arrested me yet:).

Alum, I think the leggings might be the key. I love the way a slim tunic looks over skinny jeans too so maybe I’ll try that silhouette.

I do wear my tall boots with dresses and skirts a lot. I guess I’m trying to see if I should talk myself into a pair of shorter boots this season!

chinablue, FWIW, the boots I ordered are brown suede with leather accents. Since I have too many black boots and because my wardrobe has a few items with brownish hues, I decided that brown would be a great neutral color for me.

surfcity, my new boots are mid-calf length. Three inch heel, some platform, chocolate brown suede with brown leather accents. Tried to find a picture online accessible without login, but since it is a past season model, my first attempts were not successful.

Rue La La’s Today’s Fix is a Donald J. Pliner boot for $159.90. Nice looking boot.

So BB how will you wear your new boots? I am seriously shoe impaired

I tried on some ankle pants today for fall/winter. They looked great with the black flats I had on. I just can’t picture how you’d wear them when it gets really cold out.

I wear tights or long underwear under my pants if it is really cold.
Even if you have an inch or two of skin showing, if the rest of you is warm, youll be alright.

Or do what i do. Gain ten lbs of insulation!

Thanks, cartera! Here comes a rant… RueLaLa has a horrible mobile site! They are losing Serious $$$ that I could have spent here if they only allowed me to enlarge the pictures! Can’t also see the fix on it, but it shows perfectly fine on my computer. :(

surfcity, I plan on wearing those boots with tights/knit dresses or with skinny jeans/long tops.

I returned a pair of shoes to Rue La La back in the spring and they said they never received them. My D took the package to mail and didn’t get a receipt so I thought I was just out of luck. I called regularly for months and then gave up. I opened up the site last week and my credit was there. I have no idea what happened.

chinablue – my 21 year old daughter got a pair of Ralph Lauren riding boots on sale at Lord & Taylor last year and they were black with a dark brown band of leather at the top (best of both worlds).

I am very happy to announce my SIL gave me a almost brand new Burberry rain coat she wasn’t using! It’s kind of my size (or close enough) – my question is length – it’s mid-calf. I’m 5’4". I’m going to have it shortened to…just below the knee? At the knee?

Classof2015, my solution to this dilemma would be simple: I’d go to my favorite Nordy’s and try a few coats of various lengths to see what works best with the type of clothing I normally wear. Mine would be just below the knee (since I do not like the look of my knees, and my skirt lengths reflect that). I’d have to say that even with the price of alterations you scored big time Burberry coats are awesome, and depending on the type of fabric, washable.

Thanks BB – that’s a great idea! I know – I have wanted one of these since forever but they are SO expensive! I have to thank SIL in person.

chinablue,
I’ve seen the black with brown band boots Co2015 is talking about a few years in a row at DWS, Zappos, and a couple of other places. They are really cute. My black riding boots are RL and have held up exceptionally well. I’ve been very pleased. They do have a bit of a tread on the bottom so I can get away with them in a bit of slush or snow. My DH polishes them each season for me and they look very nice.

Here’s a beautiful example. I love Frye boots but don’t have the budget until we’re done with tuition. sigh :o
