Worknprogress, that is when a pair of thin-cut dark wash jeans and cute heeled sandals come in handy, with a nice top.

Yup - my thoughts exactly!

wip…glad to hear your views on white pants. Because I actually wore them to a country club function (guest of a friend)last week (not jeans - crisp white cotton). It was a beautiful day so I figured why not?

Thanks for everyone’s thoughts on this. I think I will have a few options ready depending on the weather.

Graduation weekend wear: I just wish dear son and his friends would decide when they are having their BBQ celebration. That way I could figure who is going where after what (and if there is any chance at all of getting reservations for dinner the other nights).

But I am prepared: 2 sundresses (we’re talking NC in May) with cropped cardigans (we’re talking NC in May!) and some capris and tops. I am aware of this because I am down several sizes and have had to purchase new stuff.

I have white pants I wear year-round. They’re cotton but they’re not thin, they’re a nice heavy weight and came from Ann Taylor Loft.

My mom also drilled into me “no white shoes before Easter” but I say the heck with it. Sometimes I just get tired of black and grey and khaki all winter. I live in New England, so winter here lasts way too long.

BTW, I’m wearing my white pants as I write this. It’s April 8, which this year is post-Easter.

Congrats, Mafool, on shrinking ;)

Thank you! It was needed and I am pleased! (Expensive, though, clothing-wise)

It’s more fun to fit into smaller, cuter clothes than going the other way! Congrats!

No doubt about it, HImom!

mafool, congrats! I shrank somewhat, too, so I know the happy feeling of finally being able to get lots of great bargains like designer dresses that have been reduced 60% because only size S was left!

Congratulations to anyone trying to shrink who succeeds. And bah humbug to rules about pants or shoes and what color can be worn when. I still draw the line at showing inappropriate amounts of skin, but what color you use to cover said skin? Completely up to you…

ummm…has anyone noticed the tag on the bottom of the screen when this thread is up? LOL. I don’t even know what a tag is. I’m wondering how THIS one got there. It’s…ahem…interesting.

Ah, you are more tolerant than I am. I firmly believe that red thongs should not be worn under white pants, especially if rain is in the forecast.

LOL, missypie! Ages ago, Oprah had Stacy London on her show talking about jeans and pants. Satcy pointed out that many ladies make a mistake of wearing thongs to avoid panty lines only to end up with a “whale tail”. Stacy demonstrated how one can wear beige or other skin-colored boyshorts bottoms under light-colored pants to completely avoid any underwear faux pas.

I ask this, too, hmom5.

I’m 50 and can still fit comfortably in my clothes from 20 years ago. Often sneak loaners from my high school daughter’s closet. Just not ready to dress like my mom. But don’t want to be one of THOSE ladies who look ridiculous dressing like a kid.

The issue of the skinny jeans is really complex, imo. I love how they draw attention to when you’re wearing a really interesting shoe. I usually wear them with an unstructured jacket.

HA HA on the tag at the bottom of the page, toneranger. I’ve never noticed those before, this one is interesting indeed.

someone looking for a cougar?

Dressing like poor college students… We can take it up a notch with these lovely Michael Kors sweatpants:

[Has fashion gone completely insane?
My bet is that pretty soon the fad will pass, these lovely numbers will end up at a Goodwill donation site, and will be rejected because they do not match their saleable clothing standards.

Sewhappy, personally I think as long as “we” women stay far, far away from the junior department we don’t have a ton to “fear.” Right now I personally think there is some really great clothes and styles. I’m not a “fan” of skinny jeans, but mostly because so many look so bad in them…but equally you do see an occasional “mature” woman who looks fantastic and I can admire the fact that she has a build that can carry them off without looking ick so there are no unilateral rights and wrongs …except shopping in the junior department IMO. My friends and I dress fairly classically but we all pick up things that are in trend to mix in so we don’t look like walking Talbot’s ads and most of us are wearing more colorful tops and accessories as our hair becomes less shiny and our skin color fades. I’m personally on the hunt for a flat knit 3/4 length sleeve sweater or a shrug with maybe a ruffle or some embellishment in white or off white to “grab” for restaurants in the summer or sitting outside at a restaurant, etc. etc. I’m getting weary of my 10 year old pashmina.
