I’m in Baltimore County. Maybe they do them at some schools and not others. My D says none in middle or high. Her high school is a magnet school with very few discipline problems. The administration was able to give the kids a lot more independence and leeway than her home high school does.

I have never heard of one before & I grew up in the suburbs in the 1970’s!

They have had lockdowns at my D’s high school however several every year- it is in a pretty high crime area.

Oh- DARE. We dont’ have that around here.

Have you ever heard of the word deterrence, UMDAD?

My S’s high school has had the dogs through. No large scale problems. Drugs are pretty systemic, however. One time freshman year, S came home and said someone offered him a pill to borrow his highlighter.

Just today, he said he’s be glad when school will be over (he’s graduating a couple of weeks). He said someone was selling weed on the bus today.

My S has me friended on facebook. I was checking out some of the kids in his class, not his real life friends; they post about getting wasted on the weekend and buying souvenir shot glasses on their class trip. (S posts about cleaning his X box and nuclear proliferation??)

***Have you ever heard of the word deterrence, UMDAD? ***

Given the yield, what exactly are they deterring? This was the first ever sweep in the district, unannounced. No one suspected this was coming, students or parents.

This is a high school of 1200+ students in an UMC close-in suburb of Detroit.

What does “UMC” stand for?

My daughter has been buying shot glasses on trips, including church mission trips and a girl scout trip to Europe, for years. They make really neat souvenirs and are sold in souvenir shops. Doesn’t mean they are drinking (though the pictures of the ones getting wasted are a different thing of course). She has a big display of them from all over the country and from many other countries.

If it’s the first one, it’s not worth complaining about it being a waste of time and resources. You should be pleased not much was found. They can use the data to let up on future inspections if they like.

Shot glasses are great for soaking oboe reeds. We have loads of them.
