DS (23) is losing his hair!

My husband takes propecia, and has for years. It’s helped him tremendously and he’s had no side effects. On the natural side he also takes biotin and collagen.
He tried rogain and didn’t like it and I don’t believe it helped him much.

No ideas for slowing it down, just sympathy. H started balding at about thirty. He was secretly taking some Rogaine type drug back then because it bothered him. I didn’t care. He quit after about a year and just embraced the baldness. The trend toward shaved heads has helped him accept the change. He didn’t like being one of the first, though.

One son is also balding at 24. He has been slowly losing the hair in the front for several years, but the back is still covered. He wears his hair longish. It is an issue at my house, but I keep telling H it won’t be for long.

In addition to stress and genetics, there are vitamin/nutritional causes for hair loss.

Is it possible that your son is not eating as well as he should be?

@Data10 – I’ll have to ask him again what the GP and derm said. I don’t know what’s in the shampoo.

@HImom – good point. He is good about eating healthy but maybe there’s a deficiency.

Just in case - he should have his thyroid hormone levels checked.

It was @HMom16 who suggested a possible nutritional link (I agree always good to check this).

Another vote for biotin here…it’s a vitamin, readily available. I believe that it works, of course like any vitamin it takes time. My hairdresser seems really knowledgeable and she says shampoos don’t work, but vitamins (biotin) do. She also recommends talking to doctor about it in case it is a thyroid issue. But, this can be very normal, my H started losing his hair at that age. As for collagen…I take it every day and can tell that my nails and hair grow faster and stronger, but I don’t know if it causes new growth (I’ve been taking it and Biotin long term so it could be one or the other or both).
