DS took ECON at CC, but the score is not very good

Your son just took A100 last Spring semester, right? Has he taken A201? I can’t believe an adviser would recommend taking A202 before A201 for somebody not even in Kelley yet. That is very poor advice for most students. Also, if he has taken A201 at IU already, it seems like he would have the classes needed to apply to Kelley already. (and most students would not be taking K310 unless they already had taken finite and calculus; in which case your son would already have the required admissions classes, if he took them at Kelley.) Also, the point of taking microecon at cc was to be able to take G202 for your son’s last qualifying Kelley admissions class. But Kelley does not even have the transcript showing his credit for microecon?

Also, prior to having the E201 transcript sent to IU office of admissions right after the CC grades are posted, you should contact the IUB registrar after registering for the CC class so that the IUB registrar can register you for G202 as soon as possible. You will have to signup for an E201 equivalent at a CC or wherever as soon as possible to get this done. Ivy Tech is already registering students for Summer 2014 for the E201 equivalent. G202 is a very popular class now, since it is used by many for Kelley admissions. This advice is to get you registered as soon as possible for G202 (when you don’t have E201 on you transcript at the time of registration) based on the comment and thread referenced below:

If you don’t have the prerequisites to register for a course at the time of registration, the registrar can enroll you in the course. I registered for A311 in the spring of 2012 for the Fall of 2012, and was planning to take managerial at CC over the summer. I got enrolled in the course by emailing the registrar, then they required me to email a screenshot by the first week of classes proving I successfully completed managerial. The course didn’t actually get transferred until late September.

So, a lot of time has passed without your son even registering for G202. The waitlist is about 19-20 for each of the three sections of G202 that he can take, but the sections are very large, three of them about 270 students each, and many on the waitlist are the same students, so. maybe he can still squeeze into a G202 section by the end of the first week of classes, when some people drop. If you wait until IUB admissions office processes his transcript from the cc that you haven’t even ordered yet, however, he will have no chance of getting into G202. Maybe you can send the registrar a screenshot of his transcript or grade for microecon from cc as soon as possible and get on the G202 wait lists. Contact the registrar for advice.

Does your son realize the courses he is taking so far in Fall greatly reduce his chance to get all solid Bs and be accepted to Kelley? He can limit his Fall 2014 schedule to G202, D270, T175, X271 is he needs it and some filler to get to 12 credits. Next Spring – when he is in Kelley-- he could take I core courses that can only be taken at IUB and some others for about 15 credits (he would need only a solid C or above in these classes at IUB, since he would already be in Kelley), like X201 and C204, X272, T275, A201, L201.

Next summer, he could take A202 and E270 (it substitutes for E370 at IUB) at IU Northwest, where they should be not very difficult compared to IUB and should even help his IUB gpa, as the grade from IU Northwest will apply to Kelley gpa. Take finite or calculus (whichever he still needs) at cc the same summer and this will probably be enough to start Icore in Fall 2015.

Don’t take E202 until junior year; it isn’t an Icore prerequisite.
