Hey there,

The Sciences Po is one of the most prestigious international relations/public policy schools in Europe. Think of it as a French version of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. You’re quite ambitious to want to do one of their dual degree programs with Columbia University, so I wish you the best of luck as they accept no more than twenty students each year.

You have to have at least a B2 level in French in order to attend the Sciences Po, which can be certified by either taking the TCF-DAP or a DELP/DAP French language exam. A word of caution, your French must be quite proficient in order to pass these exams. I’m not trying to doubt your ability to learn a language, but it really does take time to master one up to the B2 level, no matter how smart someone is. Language is very intuitive - hours of grammar work and literature analysis are required just to be able to master a language at a written level. Spoken French in a classroom is different from French spoken in an everyday setting, not just in vocabulary, but the speed as well as various accents. I’m sure if you really commit, you can do it, but as you’re wanting to go to a very prestigious French school that many native French people fail to get into, just be prepared that you may not be accepted into the program that you want.

Good luck.
