I don’t think you need to eliminate any colleges from his list on this basis alone. Yes, a lot of colleges view AP as tougher than DE, but he’s still a 4.0 student in what his counselor ranks as the most rigorous curriculum. I wouldn’t let that keep him from including AP-preferring colleges among his reaches if he is otherwise well qualified and a good fit.

I agree with Hanna - do not eliminate schools based on this. We just responded based on the questions about DE and AP. I think his original list you posted is solid for him as reaches. They are reaches for anyone statistically. His compilation of a 4 and 5 in two AP classes and the extensive DE classes completed is impressive. Have a variety reaches, matches, and safeties that he applies to that look like a good fit, that make sense for your budget, and where he would want to spend 4 years. He will accomplish great things.
