I’ve know women who’ve broken away from sick families like that. But it’s very difficult.
This story just keeps going. So apparently the Duggars were supposed to appear on Oprah some years back. Apparently one of her staffers got a tip about Josh, and Oprah immediately cancelled the appearance and also alerted CPS. Now I don’t know if its true or not but its on TMZ, which unfortunately scoops a lot of legitimate news organizations.
Too “perfect” for too long. With that many people, something had to eventually “give”. I hate that this was the way, though.
So much for those side hugs working out. Sheesh. The whole thing - the family, the show, this scandal - is strange.
I’d like to see the skeletons in Jim Bob’s closet…
And it gets stranger. Remember when “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” was cancelled because it was discovered that the mother (June?) was dating a registered sex offender? Now she’s threatening to sue TLC if they don’t cancel the Duggars’ show, citing the hypocrisy of cancelling one show and not the other.
Not a fan of either show - but whoa, karma, for TLC.
I don’t necessarily assume the usual rags or TV gossipists get it right, but the resignation is stunning. And he admitted.
And Bless the Oprah staff or their policy to report. They could have swept that one aside as a crank.
Yes, should be cancelled, as Honey Boo Boo was. And maybe TLC gets their freaking act together. They, too, should be ashamed.

All those politicians who took pictures with him better start their damage control.

Politicians have their pics taken with millions of people…certainly every politician has had their pics taken with some people who’ve turned out to be criminals, etc. It’s not a reflection on the politician.
I think people need to tone it down a bit. People don’t become child molesters because they are religious. all kinds of people do horrible things. As for their religious beliefs about homosexuality, while many don’t agree with their beliefs, we can’t just hate everyone with those beliefs…after all, are you going to hate Muslims for holding similar beliefs?.
I always thought Jim Bob was O.K. He seems be pretty straight forward and uncomplicated. It was Michelle with that robotic personality that seemed a little “off”. She has a Xanax like calm that always unnerved me.
Ture! It’s impossible to really know what’s going on with even 1 child. But with that many it must be even worse! On the other hand, when there are that many kids, you would tend to hear something from at least one of them at some time, right? And it sounds like the parents DID know what was going on.
Really. Do we need yet another reason to stop watching these shows?
I think some of the outrage stems from what Josh has said since the incident. I cant fault anyone for having a true religious belief against homosexuality, as long as they dont believe in mistreating anyone. What gets people upset is that Josh Duggar, is against gay marriage, and he has stated that gays are a danger to kids! All the while he had molested his sisters. Its really the height of hypocrisy.
Josh Duggar isn’t just some random religious person. He worked for Focus on the Family. Part of his job was to go around saying that gays are child molesters. And now it turns out that he himself is a child molester.
I know a young man who, as a teenager, molested a little girl. When it was exposed, he didn’t get a little slap on the wrist and a job as an apprentice; he spent a couple of years in juvenile detention.
@mom2collegekids This isn’t just anyone though. This is a high profile person and many politicians have endorsed their family and their beliefs. That’s the difference.
Besides the nature of the crime, it’s the hypocrisy when people publicly espouse certain beliefs, values, etc. and denounce other ones and then are doing the very thing that they denounce. A lot of irony there. This seems to happen often with public figures in religion and politics lately.
And it isn’t just that he worked for FF or took a public stand on a particular issue. It’s that the whole family was held up as some model, from the get go. Oh, look at them manage. Oh, look at the happy, smiling faces. Oh, the love. Oh, the tater tot casserole. Oh, the bucks rolling in, for them and TLC. Ever see one of the sites where people express their adoration?
And then you find out…
And not just that they knew, but that they then hid it under the blanket of their religious beliefs. And forgave themselves.
Tone what down? This isn’t some general discussion that all sorts of people do crap, not a reminder not to fault the religious right for some extreme views without recognizing other groups are flawed, too. The guy admitted and resigned. At a minimum, that’s plain as day.
You’ll excuse me if I don’t turn down my hatred for these skumbags who use religion as a weapon and rape and abuse their children.
I can very well hate anyone who actively tries to promote discrimination. And I do.
I’ve never understood the appeal of reality shows that focused on families, and often feel sorry for kids on those shows.
@mom2collegekids-
It isn’t about the belief that homosexuality is a sin, it is that Josh Duggar doesn’t just say homosexuality is a sin, like many on the religious right they also basically claim that gays are child molesters, perverts, deviants, that allowing same sex parents to raise kids is child abuse, you name it…it is one thing to have beliefs like homosexuality is a sin, it is another to be out there demonizing gays simply for being gay, while being a piece of filth themselves. Basically, it is the Duggars presenting themselves as this wonderful, Christian family while demonizing other families simply because of who they are, then it turns out their family is a mess. What was it Franklin said, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones?
As far as the politician taking pictures with people, I would bet the politician was taking a picture with the Duggars to associate himself with a 'God fearing American family" and the like, using them to bolster his cred with a certain kind of voter, and when you try and use reflected stories like that, often comes back to bite you in the foot.
Does anyone really watch these shows?
But I can’t stand child molesters. It’s why I have never seen a Roman Polanski movie even if it does win Academy Awards.
