For those of you interested in Central Texas, this is an amazing piece of footage. In case you don’t recognize it, this is House Park, the HS football stadium on the edge of downtown Austin at Lamar and Enfield. I have never seen water like this in that particular area.
I am not sure how this got so far off topic with all these posts about the tornadoes, etc. but please start a new thread about that if you want to discuss that. No more Texas/OK weather posts on this thread, OK?
Interesting blog post from Michael Seewald - Jesa’s father-in-law - full of support for Josh and the Duggars primarily, although he has some acknowledgement of the victims.
I found these quotes that summarize the supporters viewpoint:
ICK! Thanks for sharing–makes me even more opposed to the hypocracy of organized religion and those “holier than thou.” So very sad for the females victimized.
@rockvillemom - I read that earlier, too. Again, no one would have to be reliving anything if it had been handled appropriately when it happened, and if those parents hadn’t put their family on public display (I don’t think TLC would have picked up the show if they knew then, what they know now). I think once adults make a decision to put their children on TV, what they purport to be their lifestyle is fair game.
No one has mentioned cousin Amy, who is sometimes likened to the black sheep of the family, but has been shown on some episodes. She looks like a saint now compared to them. I wonder if she knew what happened prior to all this news breaking this week.
Along the lines of @Nrdsb4 comment about developing a close connection to nineteen kids…I would thunk with that many kids there has to be one kid who is “different” (in their terms). Why haven’t we seen one rebellious runaway kid? Or what about a kid with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or other emotional problems?
I would bet there might even be a (gasp) gay Duggar? I just know so many kids with issues like theses that need special attention. I can’t imagine how you recognize and support a child like that when you have nineteen. My one child with some issues requires gobs of my time and patience. I don’t know what I’d do if I even had 3 or 4 other kids to juggle.
I’m sure we are all sinners, I know I’m by no means perfect. But it’s almost as if they see all wrongdoing as equal. In my world, sexually abusing little girls is a lot more serious than they seem to be able to acknowledge. I can’t wrap my head around their determination to minimise Josh Duggar’s actions.
Did anyone see a weird article about some Florida evangelist who said if people are right about evolution then there’s nothing wrong with Duggar molesting his sisters. What is wrong with these people? (Not directed at Christians in general)
If Josh repented and reformed, great. But his repentance and reformation is not going to solve the issues that the victims had and have, if they had or have any. He repented, great, but that doesn’t un-molest his sisters.
Cousin Amy’s way of ‘acting out’ is dating, holding hands, hugging and kissing. Seriously. Oh, and it was discovered earlier this year that she was born out of wedlock. She has also decided she wants to pursue a career in country music so she has moved off to the big city of… Nashville. For this, she is the black sheep.
Her parents had her out of wedlock and SHE is the black sheep for wanting to hold hands and kiss? And heaven forbid, have a career? Oh how can they live with such rebellion in the family?
I don’t think the Duggars consider cousin Amy to be the black sheep of the family. They include her on the show and she gets a very positive edit. They don’t keep her away from the kids or cast her in a bad light.
I don’t find it weird or decadent to have a baby while unmarried but I find this to be weird logic:
To quote Amy . . .
“Just because I share the Duggar name doesn’t mean my life is perfect!” she wrote. “God knew my uncle would have a hit show and that somehow I would be apart of it. He knew my parents story would be told. How amazing is that?! Your testimony is everything. Everyone struggles, and sins differently. but Jesus paid it all!!”
God planned the pregnancy knowing that down the line she would be on TV as part of the perfect extended family and she could testify as to Jesus’ sacrifice for her??!!??? Does this mean that God planned Josh’s sin as well because I was lead to believe that it was Satan trying to bring him down. If anything, I would lean more towards the blind watchmaker side. This blind puppeteer theory is confusing me.
I had kind of assumed that Cousin Amy might have been one of the girls Josh molested. There were five girls, from two families. I thought she might be the one (if it’s only one) from the other family.
Cousin Amy is way more cool than the Duggars, IMO.
I agree @VeryHappy. Cousin Amy seems way ahead of her extended family. She has a lot of the “spirit” that was squelched in her cousins. Maybe she will give the others the strength to stand up and be counted.
