Duggars in the news.

i just read the redacted police report, and associated articles and was struck by the fact that the Duggars didn’t find legitimate treatment for Josh, seemingly based on anecdotal reports that Josh would be exposed to other offenders in treatment and so would be " tainted".
Disturbing that was more of a concern than what their daughters would experience if he didn’t get treatment.
They didn’t seem concerned that he would reoffend.

Children are truly a product of their environment. Pretty much whatever the parents have exposed their kids to. In different circumstances they would have been completely different people with very different lives. Parents bring kids into the world and mold them according to their own beliefs. If the children can’t trust their parents then who can they trust. Every household is very different. I hope that all their children are protected and that no one hurts them.

Someone way up thread asked about opinions on TLC’s latest mega family, The Willis Clan. http://www.thewillisclan.com/About.html I watched last nights show, and I gotta say I like them. Some very key differences between them and the Duggars. This mega family doesn’t seem to shun the outside world. In fact they need the outside world to consume their music, and spend a good time out in the public performing. ( I though their music was actually pretty good). The kids all seem to have spunk and personality as well…no mindless drones there. No restrictive modesty standards…the girls wear jeans and don’t seem to be concerned about averting their eyes when wrestling brothers parade around shirtless. They seem…normal. I sure hope nothing is brewing underneath the surface.

Do you have kids raclut?
Most people have definite personalities, some times apparent even before birth.
Kids aren’t play dough. I expect some of the Duggars are much more rebellious than the televised segments portray.

I little weird that the Willis clan have given all their 12 kids “J” names as well! And five or so of those are the same names as Duggar kids!

In the 33-page police report one of the molested children reports being disciplined specifically with a ‘rod’.

Pardon me if I have missed this, is there a link to the police report???

Or you can try google for the entire report.

It would be so hard to be born into a family like the Willis’ and not be musical. I agree that the kids look pretty normal.

Kids are definitely a product of their environment to some extent but they’ve also got personalities from birth.

My sister and I could not be more different. She’s extremely exotroverted and extravagant. I’m bookish an introvert and reserved. But our parents gave us the freedom to develop into the people that we were going to be. I don’t know what would be happened if we were born into restrictive families. I doubt I’d be the outspoken, sex positive, liberal atheist I am today :stuck_out_tongue:

@romanigypsyeyes I agree in my family we are four sisters but each of us are different. At the same time there is some values that are in common and similar to our parents. Being first generation to be raised here I was raised more strictly. With each child more independence was given. As I raise my own I find myself having more traits of my parents but at the same time I also have my own views. For my own child who is born and brought up here I try to give her the best of both cultures.

Am thinking this news will satisfy a lot of people concerned about what goes on in that household with the children:

I don’t think that any family that makes itself the subject of a reality tv show is “normal.”

Hmmm, maybe not @Consolation I’m just going to hope that they really are as they appear…happy, challenged and engaged, and allowed to be their unique selves.

With all of the so-called normal families out there (the ones down the street who work crazy hours and feed their kids money as a substitute for time, the homes where kids witness first hand how angry and disenchanted people can become in a loveless marriage, etc) this Willis Clan appears to be functional and happy. Appears, is of course, the key word. I’m withholding judgement for now.

Convenient of TLC to have a replacement family ready to go in the Willis family. I only watched a few minutes of the premier and didn’t find them very interesting. I like The Little Couple show, the kids are so cute, and the mother Jenn is very likable. TLC really filled a lot of their schedule with the Duggars. I think they’ll be back, with a brief mention of the troubles, and an excision of Josh and Anna’s family from the show. More like a Jill and Jessa Take Bentonville type show.

Their home-churching apparently includes other families. They had them on one show they meet in that big living room.

And it struck me that the Roloffs (Little People) and the Goslins (Kate/8) had their kids in a Christian school . That doesn’t tell us anything in particular. But it does seen a common thread. Don’t know about the Little Couple.

@teriwtt: The link in your post above doesn’t work. That blasted Error 404!!

Can you imagine where Josh Duggar would be right now if he weren’t a person of white heritage? Talk about white privilege.

The Little Couple is Catholic, and had an episode that included the baptisms of their children.
