@Harvestmoon1, you’re right about professional counselors being mandated reporters. Thanks.
And I didn’t know the date of the Order of Expungement.

According to these reports, “in touch weekly” got a copy of the police report before it was ordered expunged by Judge Zimmerman, reportedly at the request of one of the still minor victims. Cannot speak to the veracity of these publications, but there seems to be some inconsistency with respect to whether the records should have been expunged, and as others said above, he was not a minor when the report was filed.

According to a 2012 Arkansas Legal Services Partnership pamphlet, sexual offenders whose victims were younger than 18 are not eligible to have their records expunged. Although Josh’s situation was different because he wasn’t convicted of any crimes, Officer Lewis said records similar to Josh’s are often kept indefinitely.Judge Zimmerman has not responded to any requests for comment, but the document approving the expungement request said she agreed to expunge Duggar’s record because the 2006 police report “contains information, which may directly or indirectly identify the Movant as a victim of a sex crime, and Movant is a minor child.”

People magazine and other sources are reporting that Jill and Jessa will be interviewed by Megyn Kelley as part of the overall interview. I find that extremely bizarre. And Kelly is saying the only question that is off limits is specifics about the molestation.
Could someone without a hatred of Megyn Kelly or anything remotely conservative watch and tell the rest of us who can’t stomach watching them the nuts and bolts? Jim Bob has always given me the ickies, I don’t get how he “rules” this family, but Michelle seems like a brainwashed sap so who knows.
However what one might feel about her opinions on the issues, the fact remains that in a professional sense Megyn Kelly is very good at what she does. You can put her up against anyone and she certainly holds her own. She is not easily intimidated and doesn’t back down when confronted. And although I often disagree with her, she is always well prepared and has a good grasp of the facts and issues that she discusses.
Not sure why anyone would “hate” someone just because they hold different political views. Actually isn’t it kind of boring to talk politics with people who think exactly as you do?
Maybe she is a professional, but when the article presenting the snippet of the interview is called " A closer look at the Liberal backlash against the Duggars", it should not be surprising that many feel there may be a built in bias, of some sort, from conservative Fox News.
Wow, no kidding! Why does everything have to be politicized and viewed through a partisan lens? News networks should be reporting news in the most unbiased manner possible, not taking positions or trying to influence viewers to a particular point of view.
The clip, with that title, is linked in post # 669.
I’ll be watching! 9pm tonight. I’ll post as it goes along.
How the esteemed Ms Kelly can say that politicians who are facing criticism for being photographed with Josh Duggar shouldn’t be because “they were photographed with SOME RANDOM MEMBER of this family that’s going through a terrible crisis” (paraphrase) is beyond me.
I don’t “hate” Megyn Kelly and I am perfectly capable of listening to and respecting conservatives. However, I find her to be as much performance artist as journalist. And I find her shtick insufferable, much as I do Keith Olbermann’s.
And she conveniently avoided commenting on Mike Huckabee’s very public defense of Josh Duggar after the news broke a few weeks ago.
Better you than me, @rockvillemom
Tonight and part 2 Friday night at 9pm. Yes, I have no life, lol.
I didn’t realize that this was a two-parter? Is tonight’s part live? She said in the clip that she’ll be talking to them Wednesday. I originally assumed it would be a taped piece.
Very few instances of a sibling molesting a sibling are reported by a parent. I can’t think of one that came into our firm, and we had a lot of referrals from groups trying to help the accused. I know that I’d not rush to report my son, not want my daughters to be questioned without me (and they would be). I’d try to control the situation much like the Duggars did by using resources I was familiar with - law enforcement, lawyers, church mentors, family. Most of these cases become known because a doctor or psychologist makes the report, or because the victim does much later and states the parents found out and handled it privately by separating the siblings, getting private ‘counseling’ from a non-mandated reporter. Obviously, it doesn’t always work or these victims wouldn’t be seeking counseling later, but if it does work there would be no statistics on it because it was never reported
I’m not defending this as the right course of action, but I know I would not just hand over my kids to social services for them to sort it out. I don’t have a lot of faith in the system. I’ve not read that there were repeated assaults after Josh was sent to boot camp. I understand the victims may have felt fearful near him, but I don’t know.
What would those of you who think he should have been prosecuted expect to be different? Do you think the court would have required a 14 year old to never to live at home again? (unlikely) To be ‘cured’ by professional help? To never be able to be cured and live in society again? I don’t know the answers, but I’ve seen a lot of families destroyed by doing it the ‘right’ way and didn’t see any benefit to the victims who were often the ones removed and who received little counseling and may have been put into a worse situation; foster care is often not a safe environment either with other children who have been molested coming and going from either a foster or group home.
I think you raise some very valid points @twoinanddone. I have to be honest and say I do not know exactly what I would do with my son if this occurred in our family. What I do know is that one of my primary concerns would be the well being of my daughter(s) and that he would not be living under the same roof for quite some time – certainly a time that would last for more than 3 months. There are options if you look for them. Perhaps a boarding school (and there are religious affiliated ones), living with older relatives or a residential outdoor program for “troubled” teens that basically employs the concept of hard work and self sufficiency to address a myriad of issues. Also, with the number of children in that family it would not have seemed odd if the men moved into another one of their “rental” properties for a year or two. That could be explained away easily, especially during the early years when they were living in that very small home.
I will agree that it is a very “slippery slope” putting a child into the social services system and it would be my last resort as well. But I think what many are objecting to is the total disregard for the well being of their daughters. Clearly whatever steps they took were insufficient as he repeated after being caught the first time.
My own belief is that saving face is very, very important to these people. And they did that at the expense of their daughters.
What I would expect to have been different was to not have the victims on a national TV show forced to smile all of the time.
Jill and Jessa were both molested and will both be on tonight show. Here is a quote from Jessa:
"I do want to speak up in his defense against people who are calling him a child molester or a pedophile or a rapist, some people are saying,” Jessa told Kelly. “I’m like, ‘That is so overboard and a lie really.’ I mean people get mad at me for saying that, but I can say this because I was one of the victims.”
Dr. Drew Pinsky was on Anderson Cooper on CNN tonight re the Josh Duggar case. (Dr. Drew is an addiction medicine specialist who has had several radio and TV shows, including sex addiction as well.) He said about Josh, “These are very serious mental health issues that do not go away.” He also said he was very disturbed by footage of Josh holding his young children on his lap. Dr. Drew seemed quite furious with the whole situation.
