Cheating on a spelling test, getting a speeding ticket, those are “a mistake”. Molesting your sisters on multiple ocassions, including a 5 year old, is more than a mistake. I think most people would feel sympathy for any family having to deal with such a situation if only that family was not so very quick to condemn others. And yet, after all their wishes for privacy and understanding, here they are again - enable to resist using their fame as a platform to condemn others. Just incredible hypocrisy.
I’m uneasy about their form of mission work, what I know about it. It’s one thing to use one’s faith to go work directly with and for the the needy, another to focus on converting people. I know the Duggars have done service projects- but it seems the glory is in spreading the word.
The Dillards - Derek and Jill - have created a non-profit company and are soliciting donations for their missionary work. Like the poster above - I’m fine with volunteering and service projects, but trying to convert people is repugnant and disrespectful. Does it not occur to them that people in Nepal or wherever they are going have their own beliefs?
I’d like to hear from Michelle Duggar’s lesbian sister Evelyn on how their FB post made her feel. Their lack of sensitivity is appalling.
My massage therapist is going to Africa in less than a month on a mission trip. And yes, she solicited me for donations. But I refuse to donate because I know their agenda for the trip is to convert people. The ‘work’ they do is purely done to get themselves in the presence of the indigent people so they can evangelize.
What ever happened to the saying by St. Francis - “Preach the gospel always. If necessary, use words.”
“I do not like the horrible smearing of the whole Duggar family. One son made some mistakes and the parents reacted in a way that they thought was best. The show should have been cancelled, yes, but this does not make the whole family so terrible.”
When they disappear from TV and social media I’ll stop making fun of them. By them I mean Josh and the parents. I don’t see anyone making fun of the kids. The Duggars are hypocrites and frauds.
In other hypocrite news, Bristol Palin is pregnant again. I would not laugh if she had not been making $10k speeches promoting abstinence around the country. Her mom was all over the 'net supporting the Duggars last month so I relate the two.
But HImom, no sex til yer married! That’s what she gets paid very good money to tell people. Engagement is no marriage
(By the way, I hope everyone here knows that I have zero problem with sex before marriage and am adamantly against abstinence-only and abstinence-plus education. I despise hypocrites with every fiber of my being.)
Kind of mind-boggling that she is paid substantial amounts to preach abstinence to teens. Much like the Duggars - full of hypocrisy and judgmental of others - cloaked in religious beliefs.
Judging all by the actions of a few is always iffy, but there’s a number of people we could ask which they’d rather see: a missionary or a UN peacekeeper.
LOL- I mentioned Bristol’s hypocritical situation when it was announced 2 days ago, but likely banished to pg 10 of the paper (so to speak) due to other more significant news from the Supreme court that day. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18609452/#Comment_18609452 Totally agree with romani’s stance on hypocrites. And one has to wonder, since she isn’t revealing who the father is or the reason her wedding was precipitously called off a week before the event last month… hmmm… Then again, the wonderfully reliable “Radar Online” claims her ex-fiance had a “secret wife”. Ya can’t make this stuff up.
Part of me legitimately feels bad for Bristol. She was raised in a culture where she was taught to feel bad about her body, her sexuality, and denied birth control and basic health education. She has a sex drive like the vast majority of our species (thankfully or else we’d die out quickly…) and has been told that she can’t express that sexuality in safe manner.
I’m astounded that people piny up $10k to hear Bristol speak at all. It is amazing to me. Wow, a secret wife and who knows ho the dad to baby #2 is anyway. You’re right that truth is stranger than fiction.
Which would explain a 73 page thread on, what? Sexual molestation? If the Duggars were some garden variety of atheists living on the West or East coast, they’d simply be considered ignorant and maybe even downtrodden. Five pages of condemnation at best, since molestation is one of the few things that stirs the run of the mill death penalty opponent to call for a mulligan.
Could just be me but it’s hard to shake the feeling there’s a slew of people with a real jones about Christianity.
