Duggars in the news.

On the NYTimes now app today: a pretty scathing indictment of Gothard and his ministry.

I agree that it was in poor taste to post 100 new photos of Jessa’s wedding immediately after Amy’s. Let Amy have her moment. It also shows how reluctant the Duggars are to step out of the spotlight. Their show is canceled, Josh is disgraced, Anna is broken hearted - and they are busy calling attention to themselves on social media. I don’t get it. This would be the time to stay off social media. Why do the Duggars still want attention? Speaking engagements?

MONEY

I think it’s the same article I linked in #1665. Great article.

Great piece about Anna Duggar and the Duggar culture of misogyny. I rue the day I simply thought this was an “interesting” family.

Hard to believe this is the United States in 2015.

I pray that none of the Duggar children every get a tv show. (except the eldest daughter- known as Cinderella - I hope she escapes)
Jessa is hungry for attention and would love her own show for the money. I hope she never gets it. I find it in poor taste that she posted her wedding pictures now. She is really desperate for attention and will do anything to get it. Get an education and a job and earn money the hard way. I wish US and People magazine would stop giving them any coverage. I find their behavior revolting.

It seems to be that Jessa may be vieing for a show too. She’s got some kick in her - if she does, she’ll push to get it.

I love how so many of us want to break Jana outta there!!!

And Anna. I want to see Anna break free. I would watch a show about her - living Duggar-free.

@rockvillemom: Great title!

Jill and her midwifery career plans.

Wonder if they sold the “mansion” they moved out of or…if another Duggar family with 4 children will be living there???

After you read the article in Post #1691, read the comments down below. Wow – and I thought we were snarky.

Yeah, I’m questioning if she did the actual training - university training - for CNM. To call it CNM, if it’s not, is a slap in the face to the profession.

If she did, fine. But it seems the info in the past is that she did more online training and hours in a delivery room.

Some article from people popped up on my newsfeed on facebook about Michelles birthday and that the girls want to be just like her…you want some snark…read those comments!

Her husband says she will be a “certified professional midwife”, not a CNM. To be a CNM you first have to be a nurse, than there is additional study and an additional certification.

There have always been “lay midwives”, who were not nurses first, but their certification and qualifications vary from state to state. In most states they are licensed. I’m not sure what state she’d be licensed in if she’s not even in the country!

My third daughter was delivered by a midwife and she said there are always what she called “church women” who will attend women who seek out the medical underground for whatever reason. She had a woman call her to deliver twins in a home birth and that was not allowed in the state. She was worried that woman would seek out the unlicensed midwives.

My bad, you are correct - wth? “Certified Professional Midwife”. Is that a thing??!

As of January 2012, the CPM certification had been issued to over 2000 midwives. All twenty-six states that recognize direct-entry midwives practicing in predominately out-of-hospital settings use the NARM Written Examination or the CPM credential as the basis for legal recognition. Midwives in eight other states are working on laws to license midwives using the CPM credential.
As hospital care costs escalate and home or birth center births increase, the Certified Professional Midwife is the credential that consumers choose when they are seeking an out-of-hospital birth. The CPM practices the Midwives Model of Care and preserves multiple routes of entry into the profession of midwifery. The Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) continues to offer traditional, natural, non-interventive births with good outcomes and state-of-the-art professional skills

She didn’t say she was becoming a CNM (certified nurse midwife). She said she was becoming a certified professional midwife, aka lay midwife. Nurse midwives have to be trained RNs, but lay midwives don’t. In Arkansas, a person can become a lay midwife by attending a lot of births, doing a lot of prenatal/postnatal exams and passing the national midwife test and the Arkansas midwife test*.

  • plus a few random things like a TB test and a rubella titer.

Yea, none of those Duggar girls will ever ben CNMs as it requires… hmmmm, a real college, which they are basically forbidden from attending (see many discussions on how Jana upset her father by telling him she wanted to go away to a real university).
