Duke 2015 ED applicants

Question: If there are 8 people applying ED from my school, what are the chances of them taking 4? because 3 of the people applying are legacy kids, so for me to get in, they would have to take a 4th or a 5th etc

The chances of them taking exactly four, assuming you all have the same chance of getting in of (40%? w.e), is 23%. This is a binomial thing. Chances of at least four (with a prob of .4 for each individual) is 41%.

^^ those assumptions are way too strong

anyway, ive been chillin around this thread for a while but i just wanted to stop in and wish everyone the best of luck. Everyone deserves it, but in the end, whatever happens will be for the best.

good luck guys.

Is being first generation american considered a hook? my parents went to college in canada and then we travelled to a few palces then to the US so i would be the first from my family attending college in the US is this a hook at all?

less than 25 hours…ugh just give me my rejection already

It just hit me that it’s really tomorrow. Months of waiting and building anticipation, all for one single moment that will basically determine the next four years of our lives.

I don’t know if I’ll be sleeping tonight.

Hey i have been reading this thread for about 2 weeks and i think i’m just as anxious as you guys. I have a friend who got into UPENN and i dont know anyone else applying early anywhere with binding decisions. I just want to know what im doing over winter break.

Is everyone going to post on here if they got in!!

this time tomorrow i will be dying a little bit inside… only 24.5 hours left, im SOOOOO EXCITED!!!

my emotions are too strong for words. I can’t take the wait anymore…a few of my friends were deferred from Richmond and Georgetown today and I just know the same thing is going to happen to me tomorrow… :(

Hey guys,
I’m a first time poster but I’ve been reading your every word (creepy, right?). I know that I can’t speak for everybody but I’ve noticed that a lot of people are saying that they fully anticipate rejection/deferral tomorrow (I’m guilty of this myself). Does anyone else feel like this college application process has made them feel significantly worse about themselves because it makes them realize that, although they’re a very smart kid, there are millions of other equally smart, or even more smart, kids out there? I wasn’t attempting to make everyone feel badly about themselves, as I was merely trying to point out that, despite how we may feel because of this college process, we shouldn’t start doubting ourselves. We’re all really smart so we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. I wish you all the best of luck! Hopefully we’ll all be classmates next year.

Exactly 24 hours to go! I can’t wait until tomorrow…I just want to know already.

Less than 1 day!

24 hours…i cant deal with this. my friend got rejected from brown today. but she kinda had a feeling it wasnt gonna happen…i have confidence in myself and i know i have great scores, great gpa, great resume, and i have some pretty unique things included in my resume and great essays and recommendations.
but i feel ya mattyice11…i was thinking the exact same thing
im wishing for the best. i need a good week.
good thing i wont be able to concentrate on physics test tomorrow. lolfail.

^ I have a physics test tomorrow too! waves and sound…so not studying.

im weirdly jealous of everyone that has school as a distraction i’ll most likely not have school again tomorrow…stupid snow :/

^ I too feel that I have a good application, but Im trying not to get my hopes up. Legacy, good academics, unique resume, recommendation from member of Board of Trustees that I have known since I was 5, etc…

I will be absolutely devastated if I am rejected. Im trying to stay positive, and I do think I have a shot at getting in, but I know there is still a good chance I will be disappointed tomorrow.

@ Bear, Ill trade with you! I would love a snow day, Im just going to get really impatient at school tomorrow. We had the first snow of the year here last night, which ended up being the most pitiful dusting you have ever seen. Such a tease.

Yeah…I have an APcalc test tomorrow, I’d much rather trade for a snow day!

Less than 24 hours!!

Hi Everyone!

With less than 24 hours before decisions come out, I thought I’d make a thread where we can all post them tomorrow. Here is the link

[thread=1049469]Duke Class of 2015 ED Decisions Thread[/thread]

Good luck to everyone!

^ Let’s just use the other thread, I believe NCBoy1 has bumped it now.

24 hours! Look on the bright side, at least we aren’t applying to MIT! I don’t think I could wait another two days by this point, it already feels like we’re one of the last groups to know our decision!

@mattyice11: not creepy at all, I’m guessing we have a lot of lurkers actually  And I kind of know what you mean, I feel like I could have…done more…with my life in high school. I’ve been making up for lost time ever since I discovered this site, but we’ll see if it’s good enough tomorrow :o

ok, so there are 2 decisions threads…we are using:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/duke-university/1042708-official-duke-2015-ed-results-thread.html

just to make things clear…
