~DUKE 2020 RD APPLICANTS DISCUSSION THREAD~

I’m pretty certain they assign internal Duke ID numbers to all applicants, as they did in past years, and just as many other schools do (Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth…) …just for applying. I don’t think 100% of the people on this thread who have checked their portal in the last 24 hrs got accepted, but you never know!

@jamini the number was there about two months ago. I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with an acceptance.

@2020SDG where do you see the worklist tab?

@clueless96 Yes that was what I was saying. It means nothing.

It has nothing to do with acceptance. My D was deferred ED and has had that number since October.

I agree, it may not bear on acceptance. Some previous commenters who were transfer applicants mentioned the “work list” but were not ultimately accepted. I am curious about what “to do” items could eventually appear on a student’s work list. Do any past applicants remember using it? If not, time will tell. Good luck to all!

@pandabear68 my S has a CAID number that is different from the one on the worklist tab; was the one your D had a 7 digit one that started with 2? All things considered I guess it would seem a pretty egregious oversight on Duke’s part to have something so obvious made available if it was indicative of acceptance.

@2020SDG my D also has the worklist tab ( new) to D’s account. There is an 7 digit ID number beginning with 2 also. Don’t know why a worklist tab now appears. However, Duke probably creates an internal applicant number, that perhaps is carried with the applicant if he/she is accepted. Likewise, other colleges also create an applicant number different from the CAID on the Common App. We’ll have to wait and see.

We don’t have to wait and see–from what jamini and pandabear said we know that it means nothing. It’s just a Duke applicant ID.

yeah if everyone has an ID number starting with a 2, it must mean absolutely nothing

Does someone know if AB scholars will be informed tomorrow?

My s has an email from Duke admissions regarding a change he made to his application. The subject line of the response from Duke said RE EMPLID # followed by the same 7 digit number that is now on the worklist tab on the applicant log in site.

On this website: http://services.duke.edu/itac/minutes/2002/20207minutes.html I found this quote, “Accepted student applicants have an emplid id in SISS until they become a student and get assigned a DUI.” (Duke Unique Id)

Am I imagining that this would indicate him having an EMPLID # (referenced in the subject line of his email) would mean he is regarded as accepted in the system?

Yes - the wait is killing us over here!

@clueless96, the email you received from FA that had the 7 digit # referenced - did it say it was your EMPLID?

@2020SDG The number is generated when your S applied. EVERY applicant has it. It stays with the student if they are accepted and matriculate and is discarded if they don’t. IT MEANS NOTHING. EVERY SINGLE APPLICANT has it on their portal now.

@jamini, thanks. That does indeed look to be the case. I was referring in my last post to the issuance of an emplid number.

@ 2020SDG Yes. It is the EMPLID.

So is the decision coming out on March 26 like last year or what?

Can someone tell me what they think my chances of getting in are?

Act: 34, SAT II: 730, top 10% of class, Weight GPA: 5.49, UW: 3.9
I’ve taken 10 AP’s
AP scholar with Distinction, Honorable Mention on National Spanish Exam
Regional Champion for Track and Field, District Champion too
Captain of Varsity Volleyball and Soccer Team
Also in: FBLA, Mock Trial, Pre-Law
Did an internship at a courthouse
800+ hours of community service doing work with homeless shelters in other countries

“Chance me” at this point is a waste of time. Your stats are pretty good. But, if you are so uncomfortable and not confident with yourself, you should look at public schools which you will get in easily.

If you are aiming for these good schools, then be confident with what you have and hang in tight. If you get in, that’s great. If you don’t then understand this was not meant for you.

So tomorrow do all AB scholarship finalists receive an email or a phone call
