Duke Class of 2017 RD Discussion

"Actually, fact of the matter is that this is a far more damaging and dangerous comment than what Philovitist said. This is a subversive assumption that the poster at whom Watchmaster directed such racist comments was not qualified for admission, when, quite frankly, they obviously were.

Watchmaster’s comment was an 11 on the 1-10 offensiveness scale, and any member of any minority would respond accordingly, and should respond accordingly.

But, between the two: watchmaster’s obvious racist statement and assumptions, Philo’s defense, lies your covert assumption that this was AA when it was not. You have plenty of work to do on your own underlying beliefs before you worry about “how” another poster is addressing an offensive comment."

I never assumed nor said that that instance was Affirmative Action, in fact, if you’ll look back you’ll see it’s quite the opposite. I explicitly posted that Watchmaster’s comments were wrong and ridiculous to post without knowing anything about the student. I was simply saying that at the same time, Affirmative Action is a part of the college application process in general and it does hurt the chances of non-minority candidates. That’s a fact. It’s a simple numbers game.

So you’re wrong, both comments were offensive and two wrongs don’t make a right, that was my entire point of these posts. Maybe next time you should read the whole conversation before jumping in and attacking my character without the whole story. I have a problem with people who are racist and attack minorities by saying they got in because of AA. But at the same time I also have a problem with people who knee jerk react and throw back that same hate the other direction, and just because it’s being directed at white people doesn’t mean it’s not hurtful or wrong.
