dont worry guys, i am no where near the smartest person in my class (haha some of the smarter people told me after my acceptance “wow, it gives us hope if you got into such a good school!”) my mom analyzed my app to see what got me in and she came up with two things: LOTS of community service (i’ve been involved in one organization for about 12 years, plus stuff i added during middle/high school), and my common app essay, which was pretty unique. so it’s not just about gpa and test scores and class rank and whatnot. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL.

Solid EC’s, not amazing, but not average.

I NEED THIS

I am hoping my high rank will put me in the running with those above my scores…I should have mentioned SO many things, but in hindsight, I am what I am…nothing to do now but stress on this forum, and pray for an A in AP Calc BC this semester…AHHH!

Fairly good essays (Pratt was a bit rushed, but I like my commonapp). Also taking 2 college math courses this year. Research at local lab for state university, loads of community service. Robotics team (mechanical lead)
That’s pretty much me in a nutshell…

Pratt applicant.
International student (so no GPA) but by WES conversion standards should be ~ 3.8ish.
SATs : 2000 (760M, 610CR, 630W, 8E)
Subject Tests : 730 Math2, 600 Chem SUCKS
Essays were fine. Dont really like writing.
ECs : Bunch of academic awards (Olympiads and competitions)
Few varsity sports (State and national)
NO COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Pretty much describes me.

Had my interview yesterday; it went pretty well. My interviewer was the mother of one of my classmates, so it was a little bit easier to connect to her. Talked about why I wanted to go to Duke and my extracurriculars.

@ sraval1002. Is your classmate applying to Duke as well? I always thought an interviewer should exclude themselves during the cycle in which they had a child applying. This seems to be conflict of interest. hmmmm

Duke also tells its alumni to NOT participate in interviews during a year in which they have a child applying to college, whether they are applying to Duke or not. Perhaps the classmate is a different year…or else she didn’t follow protocol.

She’s not applying

Now that people have posted stats, how are you all feeling about your chances? I feel like I have a shot…I’d say I’m “hesitantly optimistic” about my chances. I don’t want to be overconfident, but I do feel like I have a fairly decent shot…
Also, where is Duke on your list? It’s probably 3rd-4th on mine, although I’ve only visited a few of my schools, and a visit could definitely change my mind.

Duke is 2nd, maybe 1st on my list. I am, by no means, an outstanding student with great scores, but I know I have a shot at it. This chance may not be high, but it’s not low.

Duke got 29,200 RD applications. According to another article the good news is about a third of the applicants aren’t qualified and will be rejected on a first read. The bad news is that leaves over 19,000 qualified applicants for 3,000 acceptances or a 15% acceptance rate for qualified applicants. No matter how good your stats there is no reason to be optimistic or pessimistic, just hopeful.

Just finished up my interview. It couldn’t have gone better!

My interview was mediocre. I guess I should’ve saved Duke for last, when I had more experience. The guy kept vigorously rocking his chair, which was a little distracting.

Again, interviews have very minimal impact. They just want to be assured you’re not a psycho.

Not until March 30th?
