@CrabCakes735 congrats on duke and michigan! I would say that employers and grad schools see michigan and duke on the same academic level. michigan is just as famous as duke, if not more. also, many of michigan’s programs are in the top 10, so its an extremely well rounded school in academics, sports, spirits, alumni, ann arbor collegetown, etc. many of michigan’s programs especially business and engineering are better than duke. however, duke may have things that michigan does not have since its a private university and I would also say that 10k difference is not too much. but its not like you are comparing harvard and michigan.
Accepted. How do i view my fin aid award?
what does your rejection letter look like? mind post it here lmao… mine was super long i don;t even want to read it…
New to this forum. Was holding out hope but got rejected. Another student at my school got in. I am #1 in my class. She is # 6. I have lots of extra-curriculars, sports, band, job, dual-enrolled at NCSSM, Governor’s School, 33 ACT 1600 SAT, leadership, no life, etc. 10/10 on all recommendations, 10/10 on all essay. My friend has no extra-curriculars or service or leadership. Scores are lower than mine. Super great kid and I am happy for her but very confused at the process at Duke. She also got a free ride. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted. Just wasn’t meant to be for me. I am curious as to what everyone’s stats are so I will keep checking for updates.
@Gnarling oh my gosh yay!! I’m so happy for you as well…you totally deserved this.
Not real sure what they care about. I agree with your comment about it must not be academics. But it must not be about impressive extra-curriculars, service, or leadership. Would love to see their rubric!
@Senior1999 im in a similar position as you… it’s unfortunately just the way it works. It must have to do with ethnicity or legacy status or maybe your friend is an athlete?
I haven’t even checked because I’m 120% sure it’s a reject, and I can’t put myself through that kinda trauma today :))
@Senior1999: Decisions at schools like Duke often seem somewhat random at times and there’s not always an easy explanation. Perhaps your essay didn’t speak to them as much…or something else. But you can’t take it personally and I’m sure you will be accepted to some great universities and go on to be very successful. If you try to plot GPA/ACT against acceptance/rejection, you’ll certainly see some correlation, but it’s by no means perfect. It’s a crapshoot these days, which is why top students tend to apply to several schools to keep their options open. As the old adage goes, “sometimes you’re a tuba in a trombone year.” Schools like Duke also really want “angular” applicants if they can (i.e. applicants that are really really elite and show promise at ONE thing) rather than overall “well-rounded” applicants. But there aren’t usually enough angular applicants to fill an entire class, so well-rounded students also do get accepted. Good luck with wherever you end up!
rejected!!!
@NikkuWadde at the bottom of the acceptance letter there’s a button that you can click
Can people who got accepted continue to post their stats? Thanks!
Hello! I’m really confused right now because the first time I logged into the Duke portal, I got a rejection letter (that I didn’t really read very closely lol). Now, when I log back into my Duke portal, it says that “Decisions Not Ready” and I’m missing a “decisions” tab on my portal. Is this happening for anyone else? Does anyone know what this means because I’m super confused lol.
@OhiGodswithme same thing happened to me, prob just a glitch. the decision will remain prob
Oh ok cool thank you for replying. I don’t really mind the decision but I just really don’t like not having a definite answer lol
rejected but not surprised… U of T here I come!!
@dazedaura there is a difference in ethnicity. My friend is not a legacy or an athlete. My friend only goes to school. Her scores are slightly above average. No SAT score either. I am just a little discouraged with Duke. I have been accepted to some great schools and will be more than okay. Things work out for the best. I hope everyone who was accepted has a great experience. For those who were rejected and are still confused, good luck to you as well. @bluedog there is definitely a rubric or reason for the decisions. In this case, I am just left shaking my head. Gonna go eat pizza and chocolate. Duke’s process is questionable at best.
Accepted, 36 ACT, Robertson Finalist at Chapel Hill. I focused my essays on the unique programs, research initiatives, and faculty at Duke and how the school was a good fit. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted.
Happy to say that I’ve been accepted!!! 33 ACT, 1470 SAT, 1st in class, strong extracurriculars. I wasn’t expecting to get in because of my test scores but I am ecstatic. However, I’m not sure I will be able to go because financial aid won’t be enough.
@Senior1999 Are you Asian male? I have noticed that it makes a lot of difference too. At my school, I have noticed that girls with lower stats always seem to get accepted at top schools over boys with much higher stats. Almost all the schools are for girls in STEM. In your case, they probably assumed that you will be getting offers at better ranked schools and didn’t want to risk their yield. Just my 2 cents. Good luck to you wherever you plan to enroll!
