Duke is very strong in the sciences and it will only get better after a massive infusion of capital and resources (new engineering buildings, quantitative initiative, etc.)
As an ED applicant, I understand that it might be tempting to diminish the competition by suggesting that attractive candidates apply elsewhere but Duke has a long history of recruiting ISEF winners, Putnam fellows, etc.
