Dumb Kindle Question

Puzzled88, I’m able to use our cell phone chargers for my Kindle. My son has a Droid Incredible, and I have some sort of generic type Samsung, that both use the same kind of charger. They happen to work with my Kindle too. (I have the 2nd gen Kindle). You might want to check with someone more tech savvy, but we’ve used them interchangeable for about a year with no issues.

Oh thank you coronax. I have an Iphone so I’ll see if it works. That would be a great solution. Chargers should definitely be universal - so much better for us and for the environment.

Ooh, I plugged in the iphone charger and the yellow light is on. Seems to be working. Thanks so much.

Well, darn, Puzzled, I’m pretty sure the iPhone charger is different. My husband and other son have one, and it’s not the same as mine.

I agree with you, it’s too bad they don’t all use the same charger. It’s such a nuisance having to have different ones for different devices.

coronoax2 - never let it be said that you are not tech savvy. I was able to take the USB cord out of the iPhone power adapter and insert the Kindle cord. So it seems to have worked as the light is now green. I think you are a genius!

That’s fantastic! I’m really glad it worked. Your Kindle should stay charged for about a month if you don’t have the WiFi turned on too often. I love mine.

Okay, I feel really, really dumb. I’ve had my Kindle for 2 years and never realized that the charger port took a standard USB phone charger. I’ve been lugging my Kindle charger all over the globe! I guess because it has that wide base where the cord can plug into the computer. I just assumed it was a proprietary charger. Off to California in the morning with just one charger cord for my phone, Kindle and GPS. Thanks!

Yes, it was delivered yesterday. No power adapter, but my first refurbished Kindle did not come with the power adapter either. I usually charge with the USB cord and it doesn’t seem to matter if the computer goes into “sleep” mode. I have occasionally used the power adapter from one of the iPods/Pad/Phone, but they seem to take longer.

Kindle#2 is now all charged and registered, waiting for someone to use. Everyone is in the middle of a DTB right now so they aren’t ready to try the Kindle.
