E&R - The Campus Laundry

I still maintain that you can buy a fridge for 140 bucks and pay a kid on the street 20 bucks to lug it up the stairs for you, and then you get to own it at the end of the year, but different strokes for different folks.

Cool about 111 Brown St., though - I wanted to live there my sophomore year.

Whatever you do, don’t get one of those extremely small mini fridges. Go with the biggest size you can. The ones that are almost cubic are completely useless.

fridge - $100 for 2.7 cu. ft. or… 4.6-cu.-ft. for $150
microwave - $55

---- $155/$205 vs BSA $197/yr with smaller fridge

“The only way that my advice does not apply is if you’re coming to Brown by plane and neither you nor your roommate’s family will have a car to pick up a fridge at some point during move-in time.”

That would be me. I’m thinking about renting a car though, so I could swing it.

There are plenty of places in nearby Seekonk where you could prob buy something-Best Buy, Costco etc. etc. where you could get a discount and buy a refrig. Seekonk is like 5 min away.
Does anyone know anything about 111 Brown? My son was surprised he got it since he had a pretty bad lottery number. I just know there are 13 people living in it (12 plus an RA), 7 bedrooms, 3 baths and has a kitchen and living room. I understand its a little further away-he was in Keeney last year so literally fell out of bed to get to most classes etc. but I guess that’s a trade off.

111 Brown street isn’t too bad in terms of location because it’s right on Brown St - it feels closer than the rest of Pembroke, even if it isn’t much closer. I’ve never actually been in it, although I think it isn’t bad. They used to (well, for at least one year) give it away as one 12-person unit, making it a cool option for rising sophomores who didn’t realize that they would hate some of their friends by the time the next year rolled around (:-P).

um…do your own laundry perhaps?

laundry services are ridic.

The nice thing about 111 Brown St. is the common space, especially since you don’t have to pay $1000 extra for it like other suites. Although, if I recall, I don’t think Brown provides much in the way of furnishings. The rooms also feel bigger than your typical double. I don’t think the distance is very much of an issue, maybe like a 5 min walk to the main green, but then again I did live on pembroke my freshman year.
