Books: I work in a used book store, and I read all the time. Fiction Favorites: 1984, Jane Eyre, Silence of the Lambs, and all of Crichton’s books (most famously Jurassic Park, Sphere, Andromeda Strain, etc.) Recent Nonfiction: Freakonomics, Handwriting Analysis by Bunker (not entirely proven but anecdotal evidence does suggest some very interesting correlations), Idea Factory, Word Smart

Music: Everything but country and music with a lot of profanity. Favorite artists include Jack Johnson, Simple Plan, Queen, Daft Punk, Reliant K, Lifehouse, The Beatles, and Enya.

Why MIT?: First of all, I want to go someplace where I am average; I’m tired of being known as “the smart girl.” Another big thing for me is location. I’ve always wanted to live in 1) a city 2) a place where it actually gets cold in the fall/winter and 3) a blue state. I’m pretty liberal on matters of personal conduct (Libertarian, actually) and I’m tired of living in the South with lots of closed-minded bible thumpers. I was nearly beaten for wearing a John Kerry t-shirt last fall. Friday on the way to work I passed by picketers on a corner with signs reading “TURN OR BURN”. Yesterday, other demonstraters were out protesting legalized abortion… they think Justice Roberts will push forward their right-wing agenda instead of favoring moderation. I’m counting the hours until I can move away from these psychos (no offense to anybody).

Hey, I just found this awesome site and decided to join so I can add my name to this MIT EA list =)

Books: I admire Howard Roark and John Galt SO much. When my class read The Fountainhead, they all hated it. Except I fell in love with him. So I want to be friends with anyone who likes Rand! haha. Other fav books… Dumas’s series, Les Miserables, Jude the Obscure, a lot more, I’m a big bookworm…

Music: most all, except some country and rap. favs - Linkin Park, Switchfoot

Why MIT: I love MIT, it’s atmosphere is just so different from the rest, the creativity and uniqueness. and I love math. i want to go to med school, and ppl tell me MIT isnt a good undergrad if i want to go to med? But I love MIT anyhow. I’m going to be so crushed if i dont get in =/ Esp since i’m saludatorian and the valedictorian is applying too. my cousin graduated from MIT. when i visited, my friend and i got lost in the basement hallways of the school of architecture for 30minutes, haha.

Awesome I probably don’t have much of a chance due to my dismal GPA (SATs are dismall now but ill be changing that soon :))
However MIT is my dream school

Books: Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I love The Talisman and The Black House by Stephen King(among others) Possible my fav by Dean Kooontz is between two as well - Intensity and The Face.

Music: Hip-Hop (though ill listen to anything that sounds good) Fav. artist is Common

Why MIT: Why not?(Just Kidding) I love the atmosphere as well. I also love the way you can be a smart but still laid back person there(well laid back to some extent) Plus who can argue with the location.
I would also pretty much be the first to go to college in my family and what an awesome place to start

how awesome would it be if all of us on the list got in!!! ROCK ON

Music: Indie Rock (Pavement, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse, Wolf Parade, Neutral Milk Hotel, Clap your Hands say Yeah, Spoon, etc etc)
http://www.last.fm/user/ASpicer3/</a> (My audioscrobbler last.fm)
**Books: ** University Physics. Calculus: Early Transcendentals.
Why MIT?: The atmosphere and education opportunities.

Does anybody agree with me when I say that MIT has the best admissions process out there? The application tracking is impeccable and everything is right there out in front of you. It’s so convenient! MIT 2010!!! We hope…lol

Books? Who reads books?
j/k. I like fantasy and science fiction novels and…manga. Finally managed to read Angels & Demons, but my fav is still LOTR, i even read all the appendices. Sad, really.

Music? Who listens to music?
Evidently, not me. Seriously. But I listen to background music, and pretty much any music, does that count? I listen to cheesy 80s Chinese music too.

Why MIT?
Everything I say here would be merely scratching the surface. I am an MIT fanatic. I guess I want to get to meet people smarter than myself, and “rub shoulders with Nobel Laureates”, quote on quote.

Yes, MIT has the best admissions process I know of…having experienced the awesome-ness firsthand.

Hope I get into MIT - I wish all youse luck too!
: )

youre not sad, LiLiachencko , I read the appendices of LOTR too =) I like The Silmarillion almost better than LOTR actually, reading it gives a much better understanding of Middle Earth and LOTR.

LiLiachencko, it’s not sad that you read LotR Appendices b/c I do too. Actually I think the appendices give you more freedom to imagine a story and its imagery, eh?

Books: Who has time to read when there’s MARCHING BAND PRACTICE?! Haha kidding, um, I’ve read the fountainhead, I love it, most intellectuals are fans I’m sure. I tend to like those icky classics they make you read for english class.

Music: anything BUT rap, hip-hop, or country. I’m a chick but still like some guy music: The Offspring, Sublime, Nirvana, etc.

Why MIT?: Best ChemE program in the world. I’m used to the whole “I’m finally AVERAGE” because of a sci&tech high school already, lol. I’m also a total geek-magnet and want to take advantage of the girl to guy ratio in the engineering departments  kiddddding kidddding. I also want fellow nerds to talk with so that my humor is not TOTALLY WASTED.

yeah 2010!! although with my stats I’m not sure I’ll be joining y’all, lol. :)

mognoose

Count me in on this.

Books: 1984, Lord of the Rings (Tolkien’s literature is one of the greatest bodies of literature we have today. Yes, I’ve read some LotR appendices too, but not straight through), Catch-22 (hilarious!), Lord of the Flies is probably my favorite.

Music: In terms of modern music, I like Green Day, the Strokes, Flogging Molly (punk rock + trad. Irish = Flogging Molly), Red Hot Chili Peppers. In terms of classical (have played the violin for a while, to say the least) no one beats Beethovin. Chopin comes close.

“How 'bout a movie section too?”
“OK mognoose, great idea man”

Movies: Gladiator, Ocean’s Eleven, Master and Commander, Star Wars, Mr. and Mrs. Smith (does that make me shallow? I thought it was good).

Why MIT: I don’t wanna be a curvebreaker, I want to work with people who have a desire to learn. Motivation is key. Also, I read once, I think on an MIT blog, that at a raffle they called 1024 and someone shouted out that is was a power of two. Anywhere where that sort of behavior is acceptable works with me. Man if I did that at my HS… I don’t even wanna think about that.

lol…I memorized 500 digits of pi and they call me the pi king at my school lmao…this year if I have nothing better to do (meaning if I’m already accepted to MIT by March 14) I’m gonna do a 1000.

now I mean, at MIT people would not find this behavior wierd …

…by the way I’m not a total nerd if anyone got that impression lol and yes I DO have a gf.

I got presidential physical fitness award for all years of high school and I play sports (so I guess you can call me a geek)

BY THE WAY:
they should autoaccept anyone who posts on this thread to EA…just because everyone who has posted so far seems cool

I can’t argue with that. :)

here’s an idea…post your aim sn next to your cc alias

merudh123 = MVP Livin Large

wow mognoose, great idea man! ;)

Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show (can you tell I’m a Jim Carrey fan yet?) lol, and THE BREAKFAST CLUB (go rent this movie NOW)

lmao merudh…I wish too, but then again, I’m guessing all applicants are just as interesting as us =/

haha, love it merudh.

classics? (bogart, and such) war/history, drama, and the one, the only MEAN GIRLS

oh and also, hmm, yea. ben, you really do have to accept all of us because we just seem to be so dang awesome.
