Early Decision II Letters Are Out the Door…

plastiwafers,
Where did you get the idea that there are over 100 admissions counselors?

2VU0609, I thought everyone knew there were over 100 admissions counselors. Clearly, you have been misinformed. ;)

Well, on a side note…
I just got my acceptance letter today!!!

I’m so excited, I absolutely cannot wait!!!
This may be cheesy, but I would like to thank all of the parents and current Vandy students who contribute to this board. I’ve never posted before, but reading all the posts has really helped me through the admissions process, or…just provided me with some good entertainment haha. Now that I’m officially in, I look forward to being able to give insight to future classes of cc users. Well…if I’m not too busy being a COMMODORE, of course.
;D

Congrats, ZPlayer! =]

I wish I could master the act of browsing a thread and not posting, like you have.

I am new to this board. I see that you (Hilsa) post here quite often and are very focused on Vanderbilt as your top choice.

My question is – did you apply ED I or ED II? Have you heard back yet? If you did not apply ED I or ED II, why? I am assuming that Vanderbilt would like to see people who are as enthusiastic as you seem to be submit an application in the ED process. If you wait until the regular decision pool, doesn’t that mean that you will now be compared against all those top shelf/Ivy School regular decision applicants who seem to be adding 10-15 extra “safety schools” by the click of a mouse in the common application? We are aware of Ivy-qualified kids who are applying pretty much everywhere with the click of the mouse. Many have applied to 25-30 schools – which I consider crazy and a disservice to the college admissions process in general. I cannot imagine how the admissions officers are able to accurately adjust their yield models in this environment of “polyappism”.

If you have explained this on a prior thread here before, I apologize for the regurgitation.

Again, I am mainly just curious why you would not apply ED if you were so enthused about this school. Thanks for indulging my curiosity here, Hilsa, and good luck to you in your application to Vanderbilt and your other pool of schools.

Thank you.

It’s ok. I love regurgitation! =]

I applied RD.

I e-mailed my admissions counselor back in October and she said that I should only apply ED if I was absolutely sure that I would go no matter what my financial aid package would be. My guidance counselor said the same thing. I knew that unfortunately I don’t have any security of funds for that statement to be true. I had heard of a lot of my senior friends last year having EFCs of 20 to 30k but that they knew that their families could not afford to pay 20 to 30 k a year for college, so many of them ended up going to UF or FSU (fine state universities) because lack of money.

The horrible thing now is, after doing my FAFSA and CSS, my EFC is actually really low so I could have ended up applying EDI and gotten a financial aid package that could have been actually doable for me. And now my best PAVE friends have gotten in and I’m just in this limbo of uncertainty and anxiety.

So now I’m in a horrible situation, like you said. I’m now up against huge competition against kids applying to Vanderbilt as a backup to the Ivy League, kids who have higher standardized scores than me. I know my application has a hell of a lot going for me but my 32 ACT is my Achilles’ heel. I’m normally a really confident person and I’ve never felt this insecure in my whole life and I don’t know how to deal with it. My heart is in this school so much. And now I’m on my way to insanity.

I thank you for the luck, though. :)

I guess I’m nosy but I read through this thread and I’m curious about the essay VandyPrayer wrote.

VandyPrayer, may I read it? You can PM it to me.

Or, if anyone who did read it still has a copy, and it’s OK with VP, may I see it?

Yes, I applied to many, many safeties and got some full-rides.

My essay is in a topic somewhere on here. I will look it up for you and send you the link in a PM. Or email me at alert.quin@gmail.com.

What’s the advantage to writing about Patrick when Spongebob is the major character with more depth to his personality that many of the people on here? Spongebob likes the little things: jellyfishing, Krabby Patties. Who else will think to write on him? None of you thought to do so! Many of you did the free-choice essay!

Who can say my stats are not up to par when Vanderbilt has no minimum ACT Score? When I said the stats are out or their range, I was referring to their middle ACT range and not their admissions range. There are people with 25’s and 26’s who go to Vanderbilt.

I have no hook? I am African American. Please. You guys are really pushing it now.

The application process is hollistic but your demonstrated interest isn’t evaluated in the process? That’s oh-so true. NOT! I will tell everyone to just send in their application and not take the interview. What’s the point when your interest in the school isn’t a factor? What happens when they admit a slew of Ivy Rejects and leave out those of us who actually are passionate to attend the school out?

I will end this saying Vanderbilt is an amazing institution. Yes, I will find a school elsewhere. But this is mainly directed towards mirimom:

How dare you try to call me or my work out, you old bat. I really didn’t appreciate that. I will, however, like to see you write an essay on your love for Vanderbilt and your amazing ACT score which is UP TO PAR. Where did you graduate from? What were your stats again? Call me out one more time. And remember to research before you speak. I did what the prompt says before you try to criticize and essay, Trick!

Other than mirimom, I love everyone on here. You guys are great.

VandyPrayer, it’s completely unnecessary to call mirimom names. Get over it; Vanderbilt doesn’t want you there. The color of your skin DOES NOT MATTER. Great, so you’re a minority. Big whoop. If someone else has better qualifications, they deserve it more than you do. If your only hook at your colleges is your race, I wish you a boat-ton of luck because you’re going to need it.

Do not make the mistake of thinking you are the only one who cares about going to Vanderbilt. Believe me, you’re not. Do not make the mistake of thinking that your minority status will get you everywhere in life. It won’t. You are responsible for yourself as a person and that applies not just to you, but to everyone, no matter what categories they fall into. There is no need to sit here and take your bitterness out on others. It’s not appreciated. I’m very sorry that you didn’t get into Vanderbilt, but it’s over now.

Okay, we are all seniors or above. Can we just stop with the drama please? VandyPrayer is just expressing his feelings and he has the right to be pretty peeved from not being accepted. He also has the right to say what he feels. If you disagree with him that’s fine but just calling him names and belittling his character does nothing for you. His name-calling does nothing for him either but I would be upset too if I was rejected and then someone on a board called out my character and essay. I’m not taking sides, just encouraging some much needed maturity.

Just a sidenote to avoid all the drama:

VandyPrayer, the vast majority of kids at Vandy with a 25 ACT are recruited athletes. They’re only there because they get a lot of slack to play football or basketball for a DI, SEC school.

anyone get in ED for the HOD major?

^^^^
ed i

tenmoar

congrats to everyone who was accepted. here is a small sample of what vanderbilt will teach you: [YouTube - Invisible Rope Trick - College Students](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj4O79Hp8fQ)

fyi, i’m a current vandy student, i just think this video is hilarious

25 isn’t that bad for Peabody

Lol, what’s wrong with Peabody?

nothing is wrong with Peabody. In fact, their stats are going up. My friend just got in HOD ED1 with a 1540/1600 SAT. He could have gone a lot of places but loved the HOD program because he did an internship in HR.

It has a fine reputation, but supposedly the work load is far less demanding that that of A&S. (Aren’t many of the athletes HOD majors?) My freshman daughter has friends whose final assignments were putting together what she considered rather elementary power point presentations. The people she knows who earned the highest GPAs first semester are all HOD.

I know this is a little off topic, but do you think if I apply next year ED for the HOD major with 3.6 uw gpa, 3.95 w gpa, and around a 2000 sat, I would have a chance of getting in? I realize there are many many many other factors in the admissions process but I’m just talking about acedemics and if my stats are somewhat “realistic” to get into Peabody lol

On a side note, VandyPrayer, you should remove that email address from your post, or you’ll get a lot of spam from spam bots who scan sites like this one for email addresses.
