<p>We’ve stayed at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan a couple of times and liked it. It’s off by itself a bit, but taxis are easy to get.</p>
<p>OP just back from a terrific week in Puerto Rico. We actually cancelled the trip a few days before leaving and rebooked it - DH has some ongoing health issues that popped up inconveniently, and I landed in the hospital with something the doctors were being all gloom-and-doomy about but which ended up resolving itself…cost us a little cash to rebook the flights but that’s life. </p>
<p>Thanks for all the suggestions (also the ones for other places - more vacations are never a bad thing!) - we enjoyed Old San Juan and especially El Morro. Although it’s under renovation, I was very taken with the Casa Blanca, where Ponce De Leon’s family lived. Scientist DH enjoyed Arecibo, we both enjoyed the rainforest (didn’t get to hike as much as we would have liked due to the health stuff but you can see at least some from the road and pull - offs), and just relaxing generally. I dedicated a drink with an umbrella to all the good folks here at CC. :)</p>
