Okay, here are my stats.

I go to a large public school in a city in the West Coast.

SAT’s: 680 CR, 800 M, 780 V, 670 Chem, 750 US History, 800 Math 2

Extracurriculars: Lots of math team, chess team, and Junior Classical League awards, mostly state awards and a handful of nationally commended awards. I also tutor kids at a local elementary school and did quite a bit of volunteering. I did a bit of National Honor Society in junior year, but I didn’t put that in my application because I know that at our school the NHS chapter sucks and we did nothing exceptional. I’m also opposed to the idea that you have to have a certain GPA to join.

Essay: I think I invented a question that asked to discuss something of importance to me, and I talked about my desk in my room and how it gives me an escape from the outside world and a place where I can just think straight. For Why Swat? I just explained why. I talked about my visit (Discovery Weekend) and I said rightly that in college I want to be more involved in social activism and that I want to broaden my horizons, which in high school are limited to all the mental things I do (math, chess, even Latin are all mental). I said that Swarthmore felt like a home, and it was when I visited.

Other: I am a first-generation college student, though. I had an interview and did Discovery Weekend.
