Ebola hysteria

“Now I “understand” internment camps. Get a grip, people.”

Yup. Should have seen what AW posted on the other thread! OMG. Return to the leper island…

One of my colleagues worry about Ebola is whether he’ll be forced to get vaccinated once they discover a vaccine. He opposes all vaccines. I don’t know how he thinks we stopped the polio epidemic.

And how on earth is a flight ban effective? Can you stop someone taking a non-direct flight? Let’s say Liberia-Germany-US? Ridiculous.

Twenty years ago, the sexton of the church I was working at as an interim pastor would not clean the balcony, because the organist had AIDS. When he was hospitalized for a bout of pneumonia, the aid left his dinner tray on the floor outside of his room, so he did not get his food unless someone was visiting and could fetch it for him.

I spent a lot of nights sleeping at his home, since the church was 75 miles from my house. Used his bathroom, ate meals with him and his partner. Just was smart enough not to share his razor or tooth brush,or contact body fluids in some other way.

I panic about a lot of things, but I have no worries about ebola. Unlike the idiot who went to our local hospital wanting a blood test for it because he had the intestinal virus that is going around. We have no West African people living in this county but everyone entering the hospital is now questioned and checked for a fever -absolutely ridiculous at this point in time, in my opinion.

This is cray cray!! The article says that parents at OTHER schools in the district now wonder why they weren’t notified that this teacher had traveled to Dallas. You couldn’t make that up. The teacher’s crazy parents notified the district that she had traveled on a state sponsored trip to Dallas and now she gets a 3 week vacation. She can catch up on Dr. Who and Walking Dead I suppose.

This is like one of those dystopian movies where the citizens all freak out turn inward and bring their own civilization to its knees. (yes, hysterical I know)

Now and want to watch ‘I Am Legend’

I think the other Ebola thread is the real Ebola hysteria thread.

I am planning to rent Contagion and Outbreak and have a pre-Halloween movie watching party at my house.

Has the issue of trick or treating come up here yet?

You can’t have a party.

Ack: trick or treating has already been visited by hysteria. Remember all of those incredibly irritating messages from TV news people about how kids shouldn’t be allowed to eat anything unwrapped, and you should “inspect their treats” before they were allowed to eat anything?

I read an article in The Altantic at that time that said that there was precisely ONE documented case of poisoned Halloween candy: a father who poisoned his own children.

Well I know what I am wearing when I answer the door: hospital mask and scrubs. Easy costume.

We have 4 confirmed cases of EVD68 in our city and a death in the next state. I’m thinking trick or treat will light this year.

And today they closed a large part of the Pentagon parking lot and a building entrance because someone threw up in the parking lot who had traveled to Africa. Really - a large section of the outdoors parking lot and an entrance? And it remainsclosed. The hysteria is continuing.

Yeah, I can see closing a section until you can get out there with a hazmat team or a gallon of bleach…

And now the NFL is being sent warning info for the teams travelling to Dallas this weekend. Oh for the love of g-d. Do the Giants, who are flying in, think they are more at risk than the Cowboys, who live there??

Forfeit, Giants! :)

Bunsen, can I spend Halloween with you? That sounds like such fun!

At the rate I am eating it, there wont be any candy left for the kids who do come. And if I wear full scrubs (mask, gown, booties) which I happen to have, it’ll scare the kids off anyway!

My neighbor cancelled her vacation next week because she is scared to get on an airplane. I pointed out to her that her husband works in a hospital emergency room. Where is she more at risk?
