You can see the traffic jams forming on Google Maps NE of Atlanta (on I-85 and I-985). Similar effect to the SW of Charlotte as people pour into the totality zone through SC. We ended up cancelling the Clemson tour. They sent several emails last week warning of the traffic problems they expect in the area. In addition, D18’s BC teacher said that the kids shouldn’t miss class on Monday (it has become an unofficial “Senior Skip Day”).
The sun’s upper right corner is already bitten off - 9:20 here east of Seattle.
Keep the live updates coming!
Mr. B is having a field day on the deck with his homemade filter on his mega-$$$$ Canon and a mug of coffee
We will not get the totality - only about 90%. He got a bunch of texts and emails from his employees that they would be in “after the eclipse.”
Pretty exciting. We’re lucky to have clear blue skies in Seattle today. It does kind of freak me out to look through the glasses. I’m just looking for a few seconds at a time.
Forgot to add - Mr. will be in after the eclipse, too.
He though that he would be working on his emails while watching the eclipse, but there are no emails in his inbox! Usually, there is a bunch of fires needed to be put out beginning at 6 am, but today - not a peep.
50% about now. It is getting noticeably darker. There was a bunch of hummingbirds harassing a chickadee in the tree next to the deck, but they all became really quiet now. Coincidence or eclipse effect?
They did say that the conditions may confuse nocturnal animals!
Ten minutes to max. It’s bright outside but noticeably dark in the house and in shade outdoors Birds, always noisy here, are completely silent. Standing under a leafy tree, the shadows on the ground show hundreds of little lighted crescents.
Our nocturnal animals (see my avatar plus the white one) are having a slumber party in the lunar lounger.
2 minutes to max! Birds are REALLY quiet
Our photo cell operated outdoor lights turned on.
Its so cloudy here in the Bay Area, can’t see anything in the sky,
We really lucked out with the weather here in my neck of the woods.
If you miss it this time there is always 2024:

LOL Just heard an ad for the Mitsubishi Eclipse on the ABC News eclipse coverage!
I am being entertained by the Weather Channel’s coverage. Their meteorologist in Oregon was in tears and overwhelmed.
thanks! turned it on. Only partial here but still good. the glasses are amazing versus the cardboard
In northern Ohio. Peak was at 2:27. Lots of people walking outside hospital complex where I work with various methods of viewing. I was able to see it through grade appropriate welding glass…cool! It did not get less bright outside though. I really expected that it would. Some slight change of temperature and a light breeze at peak.
Hopefully optometrists and iPhone stores will not be busy tomorrow with affected eyes or phones!
The red blend called Eclipse was pretty good. We had it last night with dinner.
Our staff went outside & shared some cardboard glasses that one of our coworkers got from her local library. It was pretty neat, but we are not in “good part” of the eclipse - no dark-to-light outside for us. We got to see the orange through the glasses, though. We shared with people who had stopped to watch!
Mark your calendars for the Great North American Eclipse: April 8th, 2024. Cities in the path of totality include Dallas-Fort Worth, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Buffalo and Montreal.
