Economist Greg Mankiw comments on his visit to Smith

Live from Smith: the D was among his audience at his appearance. She liked him a lot, was discussing the ins and outs of proposed carbon taxes.

===

Just recently got back from dinner with D and three of her housemates. The usual: a bright, engaged, articulate group. One of them I would not want to face in an intellectual dark alley.

Intercepted one of D’s non-major profs of whom D has spoken highly. She was pleased to meet me and campaigned that D really needs to get a Ph.D. in her field, not that of one of her majors. )Whereas a major mentor in one of her fields has said that she’d recommend D to top 10 programs, she understands why D doesn’t want a Ph.D. in that field and respects it.)

I also had the privilege of sitting in on a music lesson (instrument technique)…do I ever approve of her teacher, a guy who plays with the Boston symphony, the Boston Pops, and others.

W, I owe you a PM, which will probably have to wait until I get home…I’m composing this in the lobby of the Autumn Inn.
