ECs, GPA, etc for schools like Upenn, UMich, and Boston College

I’m not co author of the paper but I was credited and acknowledged for a large portion of the data analysis so yes my name is on the paper but not co author. Also What do you mean by sub grades? @billcsho

It probably does because it’s an Ivy but it’s my dream school and I’ll be willing to go there even if it’s competitive. Do you think applying as undecided would be better? @ucbalumnus I’m not going to go into college and work myself to the bone and kill myself over getting straight As. I intend to be a little more relaxed and enjoy my life as well. A couple of Bs will be okay

If you want to go to medical school, you should realize that you need to earn all or nearly all A grades (and note that A- is counted worse than A for pre-med purposes) to have a reasonable chance of medical school admission. If you go to UPenn, this will be in competition with 100% students at a “top 20” university, rather than just 30-40% of students at your high school who will go to a “top 20” university.

I understand, but it’s my dream so I guess I’ll just fight through it then. It’s hard for everyone, and everyone is working hard so I will too! @ucbalumnus what do you think overall about my chances of acceptance if I also do early decision and am a legacy?

@Ucbalumnus is absolutely right on all points You need as close to a 4.0 in your four years of college for MD schools.
A or A+ is considered a 4.0 but an A- brings you down to a 3.7. Get a few B’s and C’s and your gpa will not be med school worthy.

There is no point of posting chance thread when you still have two more years of high school.
.

I don’t know why we are talking about med either haha I just want to know my chances for Upenn undergrad @raclut

If you are just acknowledged on a paper, you may somehow mention that in the essay but it would be hard to make it part of your resume. You can definitely put the time and effort in the EC list though. Subgrades mean the + and -.

The plus and minus don’t affect our GPA @billcsho I was acknowledged and credited so I’m not sure where exactly to put that.

Being acknowledged on a paper does not give you much credit. You may mention it in the additional information section. Basically, it is just like listing it in the EC for the hours you dedicated. It is not that impressive.

Sorry I can’t provide any guidance on your chances given that you just finished sophomore year and haven’t taken the SAT’s. You still have two more years of high school to complete. Please disregard any advice I have given because I was under the impression that you were going to be a senior in high school getting ready to apply ED to UPenn. You did not mention that you just finished sophomore year in your original post. Perhaps other posters will have more knowledge to guide you. Best of luck.

Okay, but I have taken the ACT as I put in my original post and I got a 34. @raclut
