Don’t try to participate in that phone call or even to listen in. Just ask your GC to call them right away and tell you the outcome… ideally, she might express a little surprise that you weren’t accepted right away, then ask what would strengthen your application. If they say something like, “It never hurts to have another recommendation,” then you’ll know to dig up someone who can write you an especially strong letter. If they say something about waiting to see a trend in your senior grades, then you’ll want to be sure to send a new transcript as soon as your excellent fall-semester report card gets factored in. You get the idea.

I think you could call and ask about the financial aid stuff yourself; that’s a very specific question that they might be willing to answer outright. Just try to keep the call upbeat. If the financial aid stuff was the reason for the deferral, then you may not have to wait until April for a response.

And yes, the silver lining is that now you should have the opportunity to bump up those test scores for the $10k scholarship. :-)

Good luck!
