Your initial list is the opposite of “small and rural”. That’s OK, you are still exploring and sometimes kids will thrive at both large/urban and small/rural. You are probably looking for the right academic fit.

For Match/Slight Reach schools, as Merc81 pointed out, Rochester may really fit the bill. It isn’t small, but it is quiet and nerdy and a match for your interests.

If you apply ED to Case Western, you would likely be admitted. Another potential great match.

Many LACs have 3+2 Engineering programs where you can get an eng. degree from another institution like Case, Columbia, Dartmouth, etc.
