Egoism/Altruism Test

Wasn’t expecting such a high score lol more like a 70-80

Overall results 93

According to your score, you are a total altruist. You almost always put other people’s needs and welfare first, and are willing to make whatever sacrifices are necessary. Your often extravagant gestures of kindness likely go a long way to really making someone’s day. Keep in mind however, that while being kind and feeling “connected” to the people around you is very healthy, it is important that you don’t neglect yourself. If you are always compromising your own needs for the sake of others, people might wittingly or unwittingly walk all over you. You can learn to gently and fairly assert your own needs and wishes, while still committing regular acts of kindness. Remember, you deserve as much kindness and respect as the next person!

Empathy (score 91)

The ability to identify with, and understand other people’s circumstances and feelings.

Your results indicate that empathy is one of your strong suits. You are able to identify with other people and their feelings, as well as see things from their perspective. Many researchers believe that empathy is a defining characteristic of true altruists. It’s the ability to empathize with others that often motivates people to help someone. Being able to really understand where others’ are coming from and why they would truly benefit from your consideration most likely makes any kind gesture you commit all the more meaningful. In addition, taking that moment to put yourself in other people’s shoes and trying to see the world through their eyes has probably helped you learn a lot about not just them, but yourself too. Well done!

Helpfulness (score 92)

The willingness to offer aid to others.

Your score on the Helpfulness scale was quite high. You tend to bend over backwards and really go out of your way to help others, and in many cases, will do so without even being asked. As you probably know, offering your support and being there when needed doesn’t just benefit the people around you but yourself as well. Chances are that when you’re in need of a shoulder to lean on, you’ll have someone to turn to. The best part about helping others isn’t only that warm, fuzzy feeling it provokes, but its potentially “infectious” nature as well. That one person you help may do the same for someone else, and so on!

Opportunism (score 6)

Assesses whether your motivation to help others is based on self-interest rather than selflessness.

Your responses indicate that when you help others and extend a kind gesture to them, you do so because you really want to ? not because you want or expect something in return. This is the hallmark of someone who truly cares about others; you are a selfless individual with good intentions. There should be more people like you in this world!

Opportunism (score 51)

^^^^ yay another total altruistic person :P

i’m not the only one xD

Overall: 36/100

Empathy: 33
Helpfulness: 29
Opportunism: 53

According to your score, you’re fairly egotistical. Your main priority is often your own needs and welfare ? rarely do you put other people first. You look out for your own interests and well-being, and don’t really see a need to concern yourself with those of your fellow men/women. Unfortunately, your general self-absorption is an unhealthy attitude that can leave you as a solitary traveler through life. Being altruistic doesn’t imply you have to give away every last cent and the clothes off your back ? simple gestures of kindness (e.g. holding the door open for someone, giving up your seat on a bus to someone who really needs it) can go a long way. To feel a part of humanity and good about yourself, it is important to commit acts of kindness ? not only for your own sense of happiness, but for others’ as well.

It kind of annoys me that this test views egoism as bad.

^ I find it funny. I can only imagine what kind of people created this test.

Probably the same type of mooching, looting, ******y- liberal that Ayn Rand warned us against.

I have no strengths or potential strengths :(

^^ idk egoism is kinda bad =\ i mean we all share the world we live in so we should try to help each other out. if everyone was self centered, we would have a lot more corruption and fighting. egoism is also another form of close-mindedness since egoism always leads one to view him/herself as more important than others. so instead, we should encourage more altruism. besides, what benefits does egoism bring in the grander scheme of things anyway?

^ Competition breeds innovation and innovation causes improvement.

read up on ethical egoism

you two are heartless =\
you need more love in your lives

You call it heartless I call it pragmatic.

Ayn Rand has strong arguments. Egoism is not the evil it is made out to be.
